Does Shayṭān incite people to commit evil deeds?
Allah ﷻ states in the Qur’an:
﴿وَقُل لِّعِبَادِي يَقُولُوا الَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ ۚ إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَنزَغُ بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ كَانَ لِلْإِنسَانِ عَدُوًّا مُّبِينًا﴾
“And tell My servants to say that which is best. Indeed, Shayṭān sows discord between them. Surely, Shayṭān is ever a clear enemy to man.”
(Al-Isrā’: 53)
In this noble verse, Allah ﷻ commands His Messenger ﷺ to instruct the believers to speak in the best and most refined manner. They are advised to choose words that are virtuous, gentle, and conciliatory.
If believers fail to adopt such speech, Shayṭān takes the opportunity to ignite disputes and enmity among them. What may start as a verbal disagreement may escalate into physical confrontation and conflict—all stemming from poorly chosen words.
From the moment Shayṭān refused to prostrate to Ādam عليه السلام, he became an avowed and open enemy to mankind.
This hostility is not limited to that moment in history—it continues until the Day of Judgment.
Shayṭān’s aim is to cause division, hatred, and violence—and he often does so by manipulating what people say and how they say it.
➊ Speak with kindness and wisdom: Words have the power to build or break relationships.
➋ Avoid harsh, sarcastic, or divisive language: Such speech creates openings for Shayṭān to operate.
➌ Recognize the source of discord: Not all disagreements stem from genuine differences—some are whispered by Shayṭān to create chaos.
➍ Maintain unity through good speech: Allah ﷻ commands believers to act as one united Ummah, and that begins with how we communicate.
✦ Shayṭān is a lifelong enemy—guard your tongue so that he does not use it as a weapon against you or your fellow believers.
