The Contradiction Between Enlightenment and Sectarianism

✿ Modern Enlightenment in Pakistan

In Pakistan, the difference between enlightenment and sectarianism has blurred to mere words. Those who claim to be enlightened often criticize the Taliban, but their criticism reflects a sectarian mindset more than genuine enlightenment.

✿ Criticism of the Taliban and Hidden Sectarianism

These self-proclaimed enlightened individuals target the Taliban for terrorism, but their criticism is often rooted in sectarian bias. When others opposed to the Taliban are criticized, their own sectarian inclinations come to the surface. They remain silent on the terrorism, corruption, and plunder committed by sectarian political parties because their sectarian loyalties prevent them from speaking out.

✿ Political Terrorism and Selective Outrage

History shows that while Taliban terrorism had a reactionary motive—stemming from the Pakistani leadership’s support for America—the terrorism of political parties in cities like Karachi was far more widespread and brutal. The silence of enlightened individuals on these crimes raises serious questions. Were not these parties involved in killings, extortion, money laundering, and targeted assassinations?

✿ Hypocrisy and Sectarian Loyalty

If all these questions are answered affirmatively, then what justifies the silence of the so-called enlightened on the crimes of these political groups? Is it due to sectarian alignment, or is it assumed that if the military has committed mistakes, then political parties have the right to do so as well?

✿ A Question for Society

Will this situation continue indefinitely? Will society remain a silent spectator and accept the terrorism, looting, and corruption of political groups in the name of reconciliation?
