The Benefits, Characteristics, and Quranic Guidance of the Book on Halal and Haram in Islam

This excerpt is taken from Dr. Yusuf al-Qaradawi's book Halal and Haram in Islam, whose Urdu translation has been done by Muhammad Tahir Naqqash Sahib.

Every student and man and woman should have this book (by Abu al-Hasan Mubashir Ahmad Rabbani, may Allah preserve him)

Allah, the Exalted, created man for His worship and conveyed His commands to them through the Prophets and Messengers, peace be upon them. Obeying the commands and prohibitions of Allah is true worship. Avoiding prohibitions and abstaining from the forbidden is, according to a Hadith, worship itself. Choosing the forbidden nullifies acts of worship, and for a person to become a believer and pious, it is necessary to avoid what Allah has forbidden. Islam has declared many things forbidden, the details of which are scattered throughout the pages of the Quran and Hadith. Allama Yusuf al-Qaradawi, may Allah have mercy on him, has also discussed halal and haram in detail in this book, but he has stumbled at a few points, for which Allama al-Albani, may Allah have mercy on him, and other Arab scholars have thoroughly critiqued him, and the author has also made some remarks at certain points. However, overall, the book is quite beneficial. May Allah, the Lord of Glory, grant all Muslims the ability to eat halal and avoid haram. آمين
This book "Halal and Haram in Islam" was published some time ago under the name الحلال والحرام فى الاسلام and came into public view. Due to its usefulness, it quickly gained popularity, setting a record; it became well-known and popular in the Arab world and was translated and published in various languages worldwide. In the Indian subcontinent, this book has been published for about 33 years. It was first published from India, and later some institutions in Pakistan published it as a photocopy, and some also printed it using computer typesetting. This book contains errors in diacritical marks, some translation flaws, misunderstandings of Quranic and Hadith topics, and other mistakes. In the computer typeset editions published in Pakistan with annotations, some parts of the original text are missing, meaning the book is incomplete according to the original Arabic manuscript. In fact, in some places, entire pages of content are missing from the Urdu edition, but neither the publishers nor the readers and teachers seem to be aware of this.
My respected brother Muhammad Tahir Naqqash, who is also the author of several books, is a person of taste and research and inquiry, and is keen and excellent at bringing any book to the public in a thoroughly researched and improved manner. He gave me this book for revision about 11 years ago, but during research, the manuscript got lost somewhere. A few months ago, while reorganizing my library, I found it somewhere, so I contacted Tahir Sahib and found out that he is still waiting for my revised manuscript and has not yet published this book. Therefore, I completed my annotations and notes on it and handed it over to him. Now, after completing all the research stages, it is in your hands.

Uniqueness and Special Features of This Book Published Under Dar Al-Iblagh

As I have mentioned before, Allama Yusuf al-Qaradawi, may Allah have mercy on him, provided very useful guidance regarding halal and haram, but at several places he also stumbled in reference to the Prophetic methodology. Some of his slips were immediately caught by the scholars of Islam, who informed the general Muslim public about his mistakes. Among these scholars were the Muhaddith of the era, Sheikh Nasiruddin al-Albani, may Allah have mercy on him, who wrote his famous book "Ghayat al-Maram fi Takhrij Ahadith al-Halal wal-Haram," and the virtuous Sheikh Saleh bin Fawzan bin Abdullah al-Fawzan, who fulfilled the duty of clarifying the truth by writing his monumental book "I'lam bi Naqd al-Halal wal-Haram."

◈ The respected Tahir Naqqash Sahib has adapted their annotations and investigations into Urdu format and included them as footnotes in this book.
◈ Along with the annotations and marginal notes of the Muhaddith of the era, the virtuous Sheikh Nasiruddin al-Albani, may Allah have mercy on him, and the virtuous Sheikh Saleh al-Fawzan, the author has also provided his own marginal notes wherever he felt necessary in the book. Similarly:
◈ In some places, the translation of the book was very difficult, so it has been rendered in simpler language.
◈ In some places, archaic and precise words have been replaced with commonly used contemporary terms.
◈ The language of the book has been adapted into modern Urdu style and made considerably easy and fluent, i.e., special care has been taken to make the translation understandable and simple.
◈ Apart from the Quranic verses and authentic ahadith, the diacritical marks (i‘rab) of all other Arabic phrases have not only been corrected but fully completed, so that students reading it as a syllabus or course can easily understand the translation and meaning in light of the original Arabic text.
◈ Various important and ambiguous points have been marked and detailed explanatory notes have been provided on them.
◈ This book has been completed according to the Arabic manuscript, and now no section remains to be added.
◈ Complete research and takhrij (authentication) of the ahadith mentioned in the book have been included so that references and sources can be easily accessed.
◈ At some apparently ambiguous points, explanations have been added in footnotes, and in some places, clarifications and explanatory notes have been added within brackets in the text.
◈ Besides this, to make the guidance on this subject more useful and effective, various other types of research work have also been included in the book.
Thus, this edition has surpassed all other publications issued by various publishing houses in Pakistan and India due to its authenticity, research, takhrij, and useful annotations and comments, making it the most comprehensive and accurate. This edition should be present in every library and with every student of knowledge because it encompasses all matters related to human life and covers guidance on solving issues that arise at various occasions in human life. Therefore, this book provides healing and sufficient guidance for problems encountered in daily life, whether for those living in Islamic countries or Muslims residing in Western European countries.

May Allah, the Best of Judges, grant every Muslim man and woman the ability to benefit as much as possible from the research and scholarly explanations related to halal and haram presented in this book, and may He accept the efforts of the author, translator, researcher, takhrij expert, publisher, and the writer, and all those who have worked on this book, and elevate their ranks.

From the Divine Constitution:

O Messenger! Say to them, who has forbidden Allah's adornment which He has produced for His servants, and who has forbidden the pure things that Allah has provided? Say, all these things are for those who believe in the life of this world, and on the Day of Resurrection, they will be exclusively for them. Thus, We clearly explain Our statements for people who have knowledge. O Messenger, say to them that what my Lord has forbidden are these: shameless deeds, whether open or hidden, sin and transgression against the truth, and associating with Allah that for which He has not sent down any authority, and saying about Allah what you do not know.
