The allure of the world, sin, unlawful wealth, and the prohibition of pride in lineage and status

This excerpt is taken from Sheikh Hussain bin Mubarak Al-Mawsili's Arabic book Al-Awamer wal-Nawahi, which was translated into Urdu by Muhammad Sarwar Gohar Sahib under the title Ahkamat o Mamnoaat.


Prohibition of Making the World the Object of Desire​


① Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:
لا تتخذوا الضيعة فترغبوا فى الدنيا
"Do not be so engaged in the trades and possessions of this world that your desire remains only for this world."

Prohibition of Committing Sin​


① Sayyiduna Nawas bin Samaan (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates, I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) about good deeds and sins, and he (peace be upon him) said:
البر حسن الخلق ، والإثم ما حاك فى صدرك وكرهت أن يطلع عليه الناس
"Goodness is the name of good character, and sin is that which disturbs your heart and you dislike that people find out about it."

Prohibition of Unlawful Possession of Wealth​


① Sayyida Khawla Ansariyya رضي الله عنها narrates, I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم say:
إن هذا المال خضرة حلوة من أصابه بحقه بورك له فيه ، و رب متخوض فيما شاءت به نفسه من مال الله ورسوله ، ليس له يوم القيامة إلا النار
"This wealth is lush and sweet. Whoever takes it with its due right, it is blessed for him. Many people who misuse the wealth of Allah and His Messenger صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم for their own desires will have Hell on the Day of Judgment."

② Sayyida Khawla Ansariyya رضي الله عنها narrates, I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم say:
إن رجالا يتخوضون فى مال الله بغير حق فلهم النار يوم القيامة
"Indeed, some people wrongfully take the wealth of Allah, and for them is Hell on the Day of Judgment."

Prohibition of Pride in Lineage and Ancestry​


① Sayyiduna Abu Malik Ash'ari رضي الله عنه narrates, the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
أربع فى أمتي من أمر الجاهلية ، لا يتركونهن : الفخر فى الأحساب ، والطعن فى الأنساب ، والاستسقاء بالنجوم ، والنياحة
"There are four things of ignorance in my Ummah which they will not abandon: pride in lineage, disparaging one's ancestry, seeking rain from the stars, and wailing."

② Sayyiduna Iyad ibn Hammar رضي الله عنه narrates, the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
إن الله أوحى إلى أن تواضعوا حتى لا يفخر أحد على أحد ولا يبغي أحد على أحد
"Allah Almighty has revealed to me that you should adopt humility until no one boasts over another and no one rebels against another."
