❖ Understanding Ruqyah (Spiritual Healing)

In Urdu, what we commonly refer to as “Dam” is known in Arabic as Ruqyah. The concept of Ruqyah is explicitly established in Islamic teachings. When an individual is afflicted by pain, illness, fever, the evil eye, magic, possession, or any similar condition, it is prescribed to perform Ruqyah upon oneself or have it done by someone else.

The Prophetic traditions provide clear guidance on self-Ruqyah, seeking Ruqyah from others, and even requesting it under certain circumstances. The following Hadiths serve as guidance:

✿ Performing Ruqyah on Oneself

The Prophet ﷺ used to recite the Mu’awwidhat (Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Naas) and perform Ruqyah on himself during his final illness.
📖 [Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 5735]

✿ Seeking Ruqyah from a Pious Individual

During illness, it is permissible to seek Ruqyah from a righteous person. During the illness of the Prophet ﷺ, Aisha (RA) used to perform Ruqyah on him.
📖 [Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 5735]

✿ Ruqyah Using Surah Al-Fatihah

Surah Al-Fatihah, when recited upon a sick person, brings healing by the permission of Allah. The Prophet ﷺ affirmed the validity of such Ruqyah.
📖 [Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 5732]

✿ Conditions for Permissible Ruqyah

Ruqyah is allowed for various ailments such as:❀ The evil eye
❀ Fever
❀ Bites from snakes or scorpions
❀ Pain, madness, and magic

📖 [Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 5017]

❖ Virtue of Visiting the Sick

The Prophet ﷺ said:
"When a person visits a sick Muslim brother, he walks amidst the fruits of Paradise until he sits, and upon sitting, mercy envelops him. If in the morning, 70,000 angels pray for him till evening; and if in the evening, they pray till morning."
