Question
Can a woman speak with a non-mahram man?
Answer
Yes, it is permissible for a woman to speak with a non-mahram man. However, if she needs to speak with men, it is appropriate that her tone and manner be firm and serious, not soft or alluring, lest the stranger develop interest.
❀ Allah ﷻ says:
﴿يَا نِسَاءَ النَّبِيِّ لَسْتُنَّ كَأَحَدٍ مِّنَ النِّسَاءِ إِنِ اتَّقَيْتُنَّ فَلَا تَخْضَعْنَ بِالْقَوْلِ فَيَطْمَعَ الَّذِي فِي قَلْبِهِ مَرَضٌ وَقُلْنَ قَوْلًا مَّعْرُوفًا﴾
“O wives of the Prophet! You are not like other women, if you are God-fearing. Then do not be soft in speech, lest he in whose heart is disease should covet; but speak in an honorable manner.”
(Surah al-Ahzab: 32)
