Effects of Bribery on Society

Undoubtedly, when sins become apparent, they lead to division in society, destroy bonds of love between individuals, spread hatred and enmity, and cause a lack of cooperation in good deeds.

Among the worst effects of bribery and other sins on societies is that vile morals emerge and spread, while virtues and noble character become concealed. Through bribery, theft, betrayal, deception, and false testimonies, people infringe upon the rights of others, committing oppression against one another.

All such forms of injustice and wrongdoing are among the most heinous types of crimes. These sins provoke Allah’s anger, sow seeds of enmity and hatred among Muslims, and lead to general punishments.

As the Prophet ﷺ said:
"When people see evil and do not change it, it is near that Allah will send upon them a general punishment."
[Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith no. 4005]

[Ibn Baz: Majmu‘ al-Fatawa wa al-Maqalat: 23/230]
