Sheikh Hashim al-Madani’s Claim of Conveying Salām from the Prophet ﷺ – A Critical Review

Source: Ahkam wa Masā’il in the Light of Qur’an and Hadith, Vol. 01

❖ The Question

Sheikh al-Sayyid Hashim bin Ahmad al-Badr al-Madani, invited by Minhaj-ul-Quran, said:
“Allah’s Messenger ﷺ has sent Salām upon you all.”

Is this statement correct?

❖ The Answer

Alhamdulillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh. Ammā baʿd!

During the Mawlid al-Nabi ﷺ Conference organized by Minhaj-ul-Quran, the invited guest Sheikh Sayyid Hashim bin Ahmad al-Madani addressed the gathering. In his speech, he praised Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri and made an important claim, stating:

"I frequently visit the blessed grave of Allah’s Messenger ﷺ. By Allah, by Allah, by Allah! The Prophet ﷺ has sent Salām upon you.”

This speech is available on YouTube, in Arabic along with its translation.

❖ Ambiguities in Sheikh’s Statement

There are several ambiguities and uncertainties in Sheikh Hashim al-Madani’s words, especially regarding how he received this message of Salām from the Prophet ﷺ. Possible scenarios are:

➊ Through a Dream

If the Sheikh claims that he heard this message from the Prophet ﷺ in a dream:

  • What is the proof that he indeed saw the Prophet ﷺ in his dream and directly heard these words from him?
  • There must be a reliable standard for verifying such claims; otherwise, no certainty can be established on this basis.

➋ Through Kashf (Mystical Unveiling)

If the Sheikh claims to have received the message through Kashf (spiritual unveiling):

  • Such a claim has no basis in authentic Sharʿī evidences.
  • In the light of Qur’an and Hadith, the mystical experiences of Sufis do not hold any authoritative or binding status.
  • Kashf and Muraqabah have no connection with matters of the unseen or conveying divine messages, thus they cannot validate such a statement.

➌ Physical Appearance of the Prophet ﷺ in Bodily Form

If the Sheikh’s intention is that the Prophet ﷺ himself physically appeared before him in his elemental body and delivered the message of Salām:

  • This notion contradicts established principles of Sharīʿah.
  • The clear texts of Qur’an and Hadith affirm that those who depart from this world do not return.

❖ Conclusion

At this stage, this response serves as a preliminary and general commentary. If Sheikh Hashim al-Madani explicitly clarifies the specific medium through which he received the Prophet’s ﷺ message of Salām, then a more detailed discussion may be undertaken.
