❖ Question

If someone from among the Ahl-e-Hadith wishes to form a new group or join an existing group, and that group is formed purely for the sake of Allah’s pleasure,
is it permissible to join such a group or not?

On the other hand, the Qur’an also commands us not to divide into sects. Kindly explain this matter in the light of the Qur’an and Hadith.

❖ Answer

All praise is due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah. To proceed:

You have already mentioned in your question:

“The Qur’an says: Do not divide into sects.”

Similarly, it is also stated in the Hadith:

{فَاعْتَزِلْ تِلْكَ الْفِرَقَ كُلَّهَا}
“Then stay away from all those sects.”
[Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, Book of Leadership, Chapter: Obligation of Sticking to the Muslim Community During Times of Tribulation and in All Situations]

You are well aware that the methodology of Ahl-e-Hadith is precisely this:
they follow only and only the Qur’an and Hadith.

✅ Summary of Key Points

① Forming or joining a new group — even with sincere intentions — must be weighed against the Qur'anic prohibition of sectarianism.

Islam commands unity upon the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger ﷺ, not upon man-made affiliations, even if they seem righteous.

③ The correct way, as followed by the Ahl-e-Hadith, is to adhere directly to the Qur’an and authentic Hadith, without deviating into separate factions.

④ The Prophet ﷺ clearly instructed to avoid all sects, as mentioned in authentic Hadith.

هٰذا ما عندي، والله أعلم بالصواب
This is what I have, and Allah knows best what is correct.
