Sharʿi Ruling on Performing
Source: Ahkam wa Masail, Vol. 01, in the light of Qur’an and Hadith, p. 494
❖ Question
What is the ruling on performing chilla kashi (repetitive recitation) of Qur’anic verses?
Some people consider it valid and recite a particular verse 125,000 times, believing that once recited in this number, its “zakat” is fulfilled and it can then be used for specific purposes.
For example:
"قُلْنَا يَا نَارُ كُونِي بَرْدًا وَسَلَامًا عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ"
is recited 125,000 times.
❖ Answer
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ʿAmma Baʿd!
Such a practice is not mentioned anywhere in the Qur’an or Sunnah, at least to the knowledge of this humble servant of Allah.
As for personal experiences of individuals, it must be clarified that:
✿ Sharīʿah is not established through personal experiences.
✿ Sharīʿah is established only through the Qur’an and Sunnah.
Therefore, the idea of fulfilling the “zakat” of a verse by reciting it a specific number of times and then using it for certain objectives is not proven in Sharīʿah.
