Praying Before Its Appointed Time – Sharʿī Ruling and Clarification

What is the ruling regarding a person who offers a prayer before its appointed time?
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd!
If a person, out of ignorance, performs a prayer before its prescribed time, the obligation of that prayer is not fulfilled.
﴿إِنَّ الصَّلوةَ كانَت عَلَى المُؤمِنينَ كِتـبًا مَوقوتًا﴾
(Al-Nisāʾ: 103)
“Indeed, prayer has been enjoined upon the believers at fixed times.”
This verse clearly establishes that performing prayer within its prescribed time is obligatory.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
«وَقْتُ الظُّهْرِ اِذَا زَالَتِ الشَّمْسُ»
(Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, Kitāb al-Mawāqīt, Bāb Waqt al-Ẓuhr ʿInda al-Zawāl, ḥadīth: 541; Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, Kitāb al-Masājid, Bāb Awqāt al-Ṣalawāt al-Khams, ḥadīth: 612)
“The time for ẓuhr is when the sun passes its zenith…”
This further confirms that each prayer must be performed strictly within its appointed time.
If one prays before the prescribed time:
✿ The obligatory prayer is not valid.
✿ It will be counted only as a nafl prayer (voluntary), and the person will be rewarded accordingly.
✿ The fard prayer must be repeated within its proper time.
