Sharīʿah Principles for Visiting and Interacting with an Elderly Sick Woman

Sharīʿah Guidelines for Meeting an Elderly Sick Woman

Question:

Is it permissible to visit an elderly sick woman, shake hands with her, and be in seclusion with her?

Answer:
If we do not keep in mind the well-known saying: ”لكل ساقطة فى الحي لاقطة“ (“Every fallen thing has someone to pick it up”), it might be possible to issue a fatwā permitting the actions mentioned in this question.

However, considering this principle, it is better and preferable to avoid visiting, shaking hands with, or being in seclusion with an elderly woman.

(Fatwā by: ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Bāz رحمه الله)
