Scientific Response to Objections Regarding the Hadith on Drinking Camel Urine as a Treatment

Hadith 33: The Command to Drink Camel Urine

❀Anas رضي الله عنه narrates:
Some people from the tribe of Akl or Arinah came to Medina, but they did not find the climate of Medina suitable, so they became ill. Therefore, the Prophet Muhammad صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم sent them to the camels that were given as charity and said: "Drink the milk and urine of the camels." They did so and became healthy. Then they killed the Prophet’s shepherds and drove away the camels. Early in the day, the news reached you, so you صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم sent men in pursuit of them, who caught them at sunrise. By the order of the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم, their right hands and left feet were cut off, hot needles were thrust into their eyes, and they were placed on hot rocky ground. They asked for water, but were not given any, and they died in that condition.

The deniers of Hadith have some objections to this narration:
➊ Why did the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم order them to drink urine?
➋ They had killed the shepherds, so it would have been sufficient to just kill them; why did the Mercy to the Worlds give them four punishments?
➌ It was expected that due to the attribute of Mercy to the Worlds, the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم would have shown some leniency towards them.

Answer to the First Objection:

Deniers of Hadith should prove from the Holy Quran that drinking urine is forbidden. The researched answer is that when life is in danger, eating carrion, blood, and pork is permissible. The urine of camels is not even forbidden, therefore medically urine has been prescribed for them as a treatment.

Answer to the Second Objection:

They had committed multiple crimes. They had killed the shepherd, looted the wealth of Muslims, apostatized, put hot needles in the shepherd’s eyes, threw him on hot sand, and did not give him water to drink. The Holy Quran commands Qisas (retribution), and such actions required Qisas.

Answer to the Third Objection:

Along with being the Mercy to the Worlds, he was also a judge, and when the crime of a criminal is proven before the judge, then it becomes obligatory to give punishment; the judge is not permitted to mitigate it.
