The Fatwa on Salman Rushdie’s Book and the Scholars’ Opinion

What is your opinion regarding Salman Rushdie and his book?
❖ The Answer
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd!
I have not read his book in full, but I have come across excerpts in various magazines and journals such as al-Iʿtiṣām.
This vile individual has written disgraceful and blasphemous words concerning:
- The Messenger of Allah ﷺ,
- The Qur’an,
- Islam,
- And the Muslims.
These words are so outrageous that they are enough to make the hair of any God-fearing person stand on end.
By Allah! In the face of such a heinous act, we must:
◈ Stand united,
◈ Display religious zeal and honor,
◈ Raise our voices against him by every possible means,
◈ Publicize his evil act so that an effective stand can be taken against it.
