Answered by: Fadhīlat al-Bāḥith Nuʿmān Khaleeq ḥafiẓahullāh

❖ Question:

Is it permissible to get artificial teeth? Are gold teeth allowed for men and women? Also, is it necessary to remove artificial teeth during wudu?

◈ ➊ Permissibility of Artificial Teeth

✔ There is no harm in getting artificial teeth, as it is a medical necessity and serves to facilitate daily life.

◈ ➋ Ruling on Gold Teeth

For Men:
◉ It is not permissible for men to get gold teeth without a valid medical need.
◉ However, if there is a necessity and no alternative metal is suitable for treatment, scholars permit their use.

For Women:
◉ Women are permitted to have gold teeth for beautification, and it is not considered extravagance.

◈ ➌ Ruling on Gold Teeth After Death

◉ If a person passes away with gold teeth, they become the property of the heirs, as gold is valuable property.
◉ If the teeth can be removed without harming the gums, then they should be removed.
◉ If removal is likely to cause damage to the gums, then they may be left in place.

◈ ➍ Wudu and Artificial Teeth

◉ It is not necessary to remove artificial teeth during wudu, as they do not obstruct water from reaching the gums.
◉ According to Fatāwā Aṣḥāb al-Ḥadīth, just as removing a ring is not obligatory in wudu (only moving it slightly is preferred), the same leniency applies to artificial teeth.
◉ If the teeth are permanently fixed, removing them is not possible, and thus they are left as is during wudu.

◈ ➎ Conclusion

Getting artificial teeth is permissible.
Gold teeth are allowed for women as beautification.
For men, gold teeth are only permissible in case of medical necessity.
There is no need to remove artificial teeth during wudu.
