Ruling on Wiping Over Socks Worn After Maghrib

❖ Duration of Masḥ Over Socks Worn After Maghrib

Question:
If a person performs wudū’ at Maghrib time and puts on socks, then offers Maghrib and ‘Ishā’ together, and continues to wear the socks overnight — for how long can he wipe over those socks?

✅ Answer by al-Bāḥith Wājid Iqbāl ḥafiẓahullāh

If the first masḥ (wiping over the socks) is performed at Fajr, then the valid duration of wiping over those socks will last until the next Fajr.

⏳ That means:
✔ The wiping period is 24 hours for a non-traveller.
✔ After the next Fajr, a new wudū’ with washing the feet (or replacing the socks after a fresh wudū’) will be required.

📌 Important Note:
➤ The duration of masḥ begins from the first wiping, not from the time the socks were worn.
➤ In this case, since the person wore the socks at Maghrib, but wiped at Fajr, the period starts from Fajr and ends at next day’s Fajr.
