❖ How Should a Woman in Iḥrām Observe Veil and Cover Her Face?

Question:
How should a woman in the state of Iḥrām observe ḥijāb (veil)? Is it a condition that the cloth should not touch her face?

Answer:
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd...

✔ Obligation of Covering the Face in Presence of Non-Mahram Men

❀ When a woman is in the state of Iḥrām, and she passes by men or a non-maḥram man passes nearby, it is obligatory for her to cover her face.

❀ This was the practice of the women of the noble Companions (رضي الله عنهم) — they would cover their faces when men were around.

❖ Shar‘i Ruling and Clarification on Fidya (Compensation)

❀ If a woman in Iḥrām covers her face in the presence of men, there is no fidya (compensation) upon her.

❀ The reason is that Sharī‘ah has commanded her to cover her face, and anything that is based on a Shar‘i directive is not considered a prohibited act.

❖ Does the Cloth Touching the Face Invalidate Anything?

❀ It is not a necessary condition that the cloth should not touch the face.

❀ If, by chance, the cloth touches her face, there is no harm in that.

❖ Ruling Inside a Tent or Home

❀ When a woman is inside a tent or home and there are no men present, she may uncover her face.

❀ This is because, in the state of Iḥrām, the default ruling is that a woman’s face remains uncovered when there are no non-maḥram men around.
