✦ Ruling on Transferring a Deceased Person to Another City Before Burial
✍ Written by: Imran Ayyub Lahori
According to the Saudi Council of Fatwa, the established Sunnah during the time of the Prophet (ﷺ) and his Companions was that:
✔ Those who passed away were buried in the same city in which they died.
✔ Martyrs were buried at the very place they were martyred.
✔ No authentic Hadith or narration confirms that a Companion was ever moved outside his locality for burial.
Al-Fatawa al-Islamiyyah: 2/16
⚠ Therefore, without a genuine necessity or valid Shar‘i reason, it is not permissible to transfer a deceased person from one city to another before burial.
✔ Key Point:
The deceased should be buried where they pass away, unless there exists a clear Shar‘i justification for moving them.
