Question

Is the brother of the second wife considered a mahram for the daughters of the first wife?

A man has two daughters from his first wife. He has now married a second wife. The question is: will the brother of this second wife be regarded as a mahram to this man’s daughters from his first wife?

Answer

Alhamdulillah, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ‘alā Rasūlillāh, ammā ba‘d!

In the above scenario, the brother of the second wife cannot be considered a mahram to the man’s daughters from his first wife.

The reason is that the brother of the second wife is not included among the mahram relatives mentioned in the Noble Qur’an.
