❖ Question

What is the ruling regarding the Days of Tashrīq?

❖ Answer

The three days after Yawm al-Naḥr (11th, 12th, and 13th Dhul-Ḥijjah) are called the Days of Tashrīq.

❖ Evidence from the Qur’ān

Allah ﷻ says:
﴿وَاذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ فِي أَيَّامٍ مَعْدُودَاتٍ﴾
(Sūrat al-Baqarah 2:203)

“And remember Allah during the appointed days.”

❖ Tafsīr from the Companions

ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAbbās (RA) said:
((هي أيام التشريق))
“These appointed days are the Days of Tashrīq.”
Maʿrifat al-Sunan wa al-Āthār by al-Bayhaqī 4/255, ṣaḥīḥ chain

This chain was graded ṣaḥīḥ by Ḥāfiẓ Ibn al-Mulaqqin (al-Badr al-Munīr 6/430) and Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ḥajar (al-Talkhīṣ al-Ḥabīr 3/108).

❖ Scholarly Consensus

Ḥāfiẓ Ibn al-Mulaqqin (d. 804H):
((اتفق العلماء على أن الأيام المعدودات هي أيام التشريق، وهى ثلاثة بعد يوم النحر))
“The scholars are unanimously agreed that the appointed days (al-ayyām al-maʿdūdāt) are the Days of Tashrīq, which are the three days after Yawm al-Naḥr.”
al-Badr al-Munīr 6/430

✅ Conclusion

  • The Days of Tashrīq are 11th, 12th, and 13th Dhul-Ḥijjah.
  • They are explicitly mentioned in the Qur’ān and explained by the Companions.
  • The scholars are unanimously agreed on this definition.
