❖ Question

Is it correct to say “Karramallahu Wajhahu” for Imam Ali

❖ Answer

Alhamdulillah, waṣ-ṣalatu wa-s-salāmu ‘ala Rasoolillah, amma ba‘d!

It is correct and permissible to supplicate for Sayyiduna Ali ibn Abi Talib رضي الله عنه with the words “Karramallahu Wajhahu”.

However, these supplicatory words are not exclusive to Sayyiduna Ali Rather:

◈ This du‘a can also be made for other Companions
◈ It can also be made for the Tabi‘een
◈ It can also be made for the Mujtahid Imams
◈ In fact, it can be made for every believer.

❖ Qur’anic Evidences

Allah Ta‘ala has generally honored all of mankind, and especially the believers:

﴿وَلَقَدْ كَرَّمْنَا بَنِي آدَمَ﴾
(Bani Isra’il: 70)
“And indeed, We have honored the children of Adam.”

Also, He says:

(Al-Fajr: 15)
“So he says: ‘My Lord has honored me.’”

❖ Additional Clarification

You have written yourself as “Khakpaaye Sahabah رضي الله عنهم” (dust of the feet of the Companions). If there is any evidence from Shar‘i texts to support such a claim, kindly inform us.
