Ruling on Programs with Intermittent Music Segments

❀ Ruling on Listening to Programs That Include Music ❀
This content is derived from the book “500 Questions and Answers for Women,” based on the fatwas of the Scholars of the Ḥaramayn, translated by Ḥāfiẓ ʿAbdullāh Salīm.

❖ Question:

What is the ruling on listening to radio programs that include newspaper reviews and opinions, during which music is also broadcast? Is it permissible to listen to such programs?

❖ Answer:

There is no harm in listening to and benefiting from such programs, as long as the music is not deliberately listened to. When the music begins, one should turn off the radio until it ends, because musical instruments are associated with frivolity and amusement, which are impermissible.
