Ruling on Skipping Tahiyyat al-Masjid When Arriving Close to Iqamah
Source: Fatawa Arkan-e-Islam
Some people, upon arriving at the mosque close to the iqamah, stand waiting for the imam and do not perform Tahiyyat al-Masjid. What is the ruling regarding this practice?
Alhamdulillah, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ‘alā Rasūlillāh, ammā ba‘d!
◈ If, after entering the mosque, there is so little time before the iqamah that performing Tahiyyat al-Masjid is not possible, then there is no harm in leaving it in such a case.
◈ However, if it is not known when the imam will arrive, it is better and more virtuous to start performing Tahiyyat al-Masjid.
◈ If the imam comes and the iqamah is called while you are in the first rak‘ah, then you should break the prayer.
◈ If you are in the second rak‘ah, then complete it quickly in a light and brief manner.
