Ruling on Muslim Woman Marrying a Disbeliever in Islam

Question:

What is the ruling on a Muslim woman marrying a disbeliever in the light of ḥadīth?

Source: Fatāwā Amunpuri by Shaykh Ghulam Mustafa Zaheer Amunpuri

Answer:

A Muslim woman is not permitted to marry a disbeliever under any circumstance.

Scholarly Consensus:

“Consensus has been established that a disbeliever cannot marry a Muslim woman—whether he is from the People of the Book or otherwise.”
(Tafsīr Ibn Juzayy, 1/120)

“Consensus has been established that it is not permissible for a Muslim woman to marry (a polytheist in belief).”
(Tafsīr al-Khāzin, 1/215)

“It is never lawful for a Muslim woman to marry a disbeliever. We do not know of any difference of opinion in this matter.”
(al-Mubdiʿ, 6/139)

✅ Conclusion:
There is complete consensus among scholars that a Muslim woman cannot marry a disbeliever, whether he is a polytheist or from the People of the Book.
