What is the ruling on marrying two foster sisters (raḍāʿī sisters) at the same time?
Just as it is not permissible to marry two biological (nasabī) sisters simultaneously,
it is equally forbidden to marry two foster (raḍāʿī) sisters at the same time.
This is because foster relationships carry the same legal rulings as those of blood relations in matters of marriage prohibition.
Allah ﷻ says:
﴿ وَأَنْ تَجْمَعُوا بَيْنَ الْأُخْتَيْنِ ﴾
Sūrat al-Nisā’ (4): 23
“And (also forbidden is) that you combine two sisters (in marriage at the same time).”
This prohibition includes all types of sisters:
✔ Biological sisters
✔ Foster sisters (through breastfeeding)
Therefore, foster sisters fall under the same ruling of prohibition.
① It is haram (forbidden) to be married to two foster sisters at the same time.
② This is by analogy with the prohibition of marrying two real sisters simultaneously.
③ The ruling is based on the principle that raḍāʿah (fosterage) prohibits what nasab (blood ties) prohibits.
④ Such a marriage is considered invalid in Islamic law.
