❖ Question:

What is the ruling on marrying the ex-wife or widow of one’s wife's milk-son (raḍāʿī son)?

✿ Answer:

Such a marriage is not permissible.
A wife's milk-son (raḍāʿī son) is also regarded as the man's milk-son through the bond of breastfeeding. Just as it is forbidden to marry the ex-wife or widow of one's biological son, similarly, it is forbidden to marry the ex-wife or widow of one’s milk-son.

Because a relationship that becomes unlawful (ḥarām) through lineage (nasab) also becomes unlawful through breastfeeding (raḍāʿah).

❖ Quranic Evidence:

وَحَلَائِلُ أَبْنَائِكُمْ
﴿النساء: 23﴾

Translation:

“And (also forbidden to you are) the wives of your sons...”
[Surah An-Nisā’: 23]

Here, “your sons” includes both biological and milk-sons (through breastfeeding), according to Islamic jurisprudence.

✅ Summary:

  • A man cannot marry the former wife or widow of his wife’s milk-son.
  • Milk-relations (raḍāʿah) carry the same legal weight in matters of marriage prohibitions as blood relations (nasab).
