❖ Question
If a person in the state of iḥrām becomes junub (in a state of major ritual impurity), is he required to perform ghusl?
❖ Answer
Yes. If a person in iḥrām becomes junub, then performing ghusl al-janābah is obligatory by consensus of the scholars.
❖ Scholarly Consensus
◈ Imām al-Nawawī (d. 676H):
((اتفق العلماء على جواز غسل المحرم رأسه وجسده من الجنابة بل هو واجب عليه))
“The scholars are unanimously agreed that it is permissible for a person in iḥrām to wash his head and body due to janābah, rather it is obligatory upon him.”
— Sharḥ Muslim 8/126
Conclusion
- A person in iḥrām who becomes junub must perform ghusl.
- Washing the head and body in such a state is not only permissible but compulsory.
- This ruling is affirmed by scholarly consensus.
