❖ Question

If a person in the state of iḥrām becomes junub (in a state of major ritual impurity), is he required to perform ghusl?

❖ Answer

Yes. If a person in iḥrām becomes junub, then performing ghusl al-janābah is obligatory by consensus of the scholars.

❖ Scholarly Consensus

Imām al-Nawawī (d. 676H):
((اتفق العلماء على جواز غسل المحرم رأسه وجسده من الجنابة بل هو واجب عليه))
“The scholars are unanimously agreed that it is permissible for a person in iḥrām to wash his head and body due to janābah, rather it is obligatory upon him.”
Sharḥ Muslim 8/126

✅ Conclusion

  • A person in iḥrām who becomes junub must perform ghusl.
  • Washing the head and body in such a state is not only permissible but compulsory.
  • This ruling is affirmed by scholarly consensus.
