Ruling on Fasting if Menstrual Blood Appears After Sunset

Ruling on the Fast of a Woman Who Experiences Menstrual Blood Without Realizing Its Onset

This content is derived from the book "500 Questions and Answers for Women," based on the fatwas of the scholars of the Haramain, translated by Hafiz Abdullah Saleem.

❀ Question:

If a woman feels as though blood is discharging, but in reality no blood appears before sunset, or she experiences menstrual pain without actual bleeding, will her fast for that day be valid? Or will she be required to make up that day?

❀ Answer:

If a woman, while in a state of purity and fasting, feels the onset of menstruation but the menstrual blood begins to flow only after sunset, or if she begins to experience the pain of menstruation but no blood appears until after sunset, then her fast for that day is valid and correct.

✔ In the case of an obligatory fast, it is not required to make it up.
✔ In the case of a voluntary fast, its reward will not be nullified.
