❀ Ruling on Praying Extra Rak‘ah in Witr and Performing Sajdah al-Sahw ❀

❖ Question:
A person intended to pray one rak‘ah of Witr but out of forgetfulness performed two rak‘ahs. What is the ruling?
❖ Answer:
He should perform sajdah al-sahw, and his prayer will be valid. The additional rak‘ah and the two prostrations of forgetfulness will both be counted as nafl (voluntary worship) for him.
