Ruling on Constructing a Two-Storey Mosque

Source: Fatāwā ʿUlamāʾ-e-Ḥadīth, Volume 09

Is it permissible in Islamic law to build a two-storey mosque, i.e., to construct one mosque above another?

Yes, it is permissible in Sharīʿah to construct a two-storey mosque. There is no legal objection to building a second mosque floor above the first.

Such mosques are found abundantly in the Indian subcontinent as well as in Arab countries, serving as a precedent and accepted practice.
