Ruling on Observing Ḥijāb from Maternal Uncle’s Wife (Māmānī) and the Required Caution – In Light of Qur’an and Hadith​

Question​


If a maternal uncle’s wife (māmānī) does not observe ḥijāb, should one observe ḥijāb from her, or should one avoid going before her as a precaution?


Answer​


Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd!


✿ If the maternal uncle’s wife (māmānī) does not observe ḥijāb, then it is obligatory to observe ḥijāb from her.


✿ Otherwise, one should not go before her and should not look at her.


✿ It is necessary to safeguard oneself and exercise precaution in this matter.
