Ruling on Performing Ḥajj with a Fake Passport and Sharʿī Guidance
Source: Fatāwā Arkān al-Islām

❖ The Sharʿī Ruling

  • If a person performs Ḥajj using a fake passport, then the Ḥajj itself is valid, because the falsification of the passport does not affect the validity of the Ḥajj.
  • However, the individual is sinful for committing acts such as lying, deception, and forgery, all of which are prohibited in Islam.

❖ Required Actions for the Offender

Such a person must:

  1. Repent sincerely to Allah ﷻ.
  2. Use their real name on future passports, so that:
    • Government authorities and officials are not troubled.
    • No Sharʿī or legal rights are lost due to name discrepancies.

❖ The Harm of Using Fake Names and IDs

  • It is considered consuming wealth unlawfully.
  • It makes a person among those who speak falsehood.

❖ Important Advice

This is not a small matter—many use fake names to obtain government aid or for other purposes. This behavior:

  • Corrupts dealings,
  • Is based on lies and deceit,
  • And is tantamount to deceiving the authorities.

❖ Reminder from the Qur’an and Sunnah

We must always remember:

“Whoever fears Allah, He will make for him a way out, and provide for him from where he does not expect. Whoever fears Allah, He will make his matter easy for him. And whoever fears Allah and speaks the truth, Allah will correct his deeds and forgive his sins.”
