Mourning Rulings for Women

① It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:
لا يحل لامرأة تؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر أن تحد على ميت فوق ثلاث إلا على زوجها
"A woman who believes in Allah and the Last Day is not permitted to mourn for more than three days for anyone other than her husband."
Reference: Muslim, Book of Divorce 63 / 1490.

② The noble wife of the Prophet (peace be upon him), Sayyida Safiyya (may Allah be pleased with her), narrates from the Prophet (peace be upon him) that he said:
لا يحل لامرأة تؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر أن تحد فوق ثلاث إلا على زوجها فإنها تحد أربعة أشهر وعشرة أيام
"A woman who believes in Allah and the Last Day is not permitted to mourn for more than three days for anyone other than her husband, because she will mourn for him for four months and ten days."
Reference: Muslim, Book of Divorce 64 / 1490.

Patience

① It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas رضي الله عنه that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم came to a woman who was crying over the death of her child. He صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said to her:
اتقي الله واصبري
"Fear Allah and be patient."
The woman said, "You do not understand my affliction." After the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم left, she was informed that it was the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم. (Upon hearing this) she became as if death had seized her. Then she came to his house and found no doorkeeper at his door. She said, "O Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم! I did not recognize you (now I will be patient)." The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
إنما الصبر عند الصدمة الأولى
"Patience is that which is at the first stroke of a calamity."
