Rules of Ghusl and Janabat, Rules of Parda, Izar, and Ghusl-e-Janabat

This excerpt is taken from Sheikh Hussain bin Mubarak Al-Mosuli's Arabic book Al-Awamer wal-Nawahi, whose Urdu translation has been done by Muhammad Sarwar Gohar Sahib under the title Ahkamat o Mamnooat.

Chapter: Ghusl (Ritual Bath)

Covering oneself while performing Ghusl

① It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) saw a man performing Ghusl in an open place without wearing an izar (waist wrapper). Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) came to the pulpit, praised and glorified Allah, and said:
إذا اغتسل أحدكم فليستتر إن الله حيي ستير يحب الحياء والستر، فإذا اغتسل أحدكم فليستتر
"Indeed, Allah is modest and loves modesty. When any one of you performs Ghusl, he should cover himself."
Reference: Abu Dawood, Book of Bathing, Chapter on Prohibition of Nudity, 4012. An-Nasa’i, 200/1.

And it is also narrated from him that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:
إن الله عز وجل ستير، فإذا أراد أحدكم أن يغتسل فليتوار بشيء
"Indeed, Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, is modest, so when any one of you wants to perform Ghusl, let him cover himself with something."
Reference: An-Nasa’i, Book of Purification, Chapter on Ghusl.

Wearing an izar in the bathhouse

① It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir رضي الله عنه that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
من كان يؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر فلا يدخل الحمام بغير إزار، ومن كان يؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر فلا يدخل حليلته الحمام، ومن كان يؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر فلا يجلس على مائدة يدار عليها الخمر
"Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should not enter the bathroom without wearing a waist-wrapper (izar), whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should not bring his wife into the bathroom, and whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should not sit at a dining table where alcohol is being served."
Reference: Tirmidhi, Book of Manners, Hadith 2801. This narration is Hasan.

② It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir رضي الله عنه that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
من كان يؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر فلا يدخل الحمام إلا بمئزر
"Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should not enter the bathroom without wearing a waist-wrapper (izar)."
Reference: Tirmidhi, Book of Manners, Hadith 2801.

③ It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin Aas رضي الله عنهما that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
ستفتح لكم أرض العجم، وستجدون فيها بيوتا يقال لها الحمامات، فلا يدخلها الرجال إلا بإزار، وامنعوا منها النساء إلا مريضة أو نفساء
"You will conquer the lands of the non-Arabs and you will find some rooms there called bathrooms. Men should not enter them without a waist-wrapper (izar), and women, except those who are sick or in postpartum condition, should be prevented from entering them."
Reference: Abu Dawood, Book of Baths, 4011. Ibn Majah, Book of Manners, Hadith 3748. This narration is weak because the chain includes Abd al-Rahman bin Ziyad bin al-An'am, who is a weak narrator.

Instructions for the Ghusl of Janabah

① It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه that when the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم performed the Ghusl of Janabah, he would first wash his hands, then pour water from his right hand onto his left hand and wash the private parts, then perform ablution (wudu) as he would for prayer. Then he would insert his fingers into the roots of his hair until he was certain of cleanliness. The Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم would pour water over his head three times, then pour water over his entire body, and then wash his feet.

Instructions Regarding Janabah

① It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه that the Prophet Muhammad صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
إذا جلس الرجل بين شعبها الأربع ثم جهدها فقد وجب عليه الغسل
"When a man sits for intercourse with his wife in any of the four positions and then makes an attempt with her, then Ghusl becomes obligatory upon him."
And in another narration:
وإن لم ينزل
"Even if ejaculation does not occur."
Reference: Bukhari, Book of Ghusl, 291. Muslim, Book of Menstruation, 348/87.

② The noble wife of the Prophet Muhammad صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم, Sayyidah Aisha رضي الله عنها, reports that a man asked the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم a question: If a man has intercourse with his wife and then at the time of ejaculation he withdraws and ejaculates outside, will Ghusl be obligatory on both of them? At that time Sayyidah Aisha رضي الله عنها was also present. The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
إني لأفعل ذلك أنا وهذه ثم نغتسل
"We do the same and then perform Ghusl."
Reference: Muslim, Book of Menstruation, 350/89.
