«باب من وصل رحمه فى الشرك، ثم أسلم»
It is narrated from Ḥakīm ibn Ḥizām (رضي الله عنه) that he said to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ):
“O Messenger of Allah, what is your opinion regarding the deeds I used to do in the time of Jāhiliyyah, such as maintaining kinship ties, freeing slaves, and giving in charity? Will I receive any reward for them?”
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) replied:
“You have accepted Islam upon the goodness that preceded it.”
[Agreed upon: al-Bukhārī 5992; Muslim 123/195]
✔ This hadith indicates that righteous deeds done before accepting Islam — such as charity, acts of kindness, maintaining kinship ties, and freeing slaves — can become a source of reward after Islam, if the person embraces Islam sincerely.
✔ The Prophet (ﷺ) affirmed that Hakīm ibn Ḥizām's prior good deeds were acknowledged and accepted in light of his embracing of Islam, demonstrating Allah’s mercy and justice.
