Sa‘d al-Sulaymi (رضي الله عنه), a man from the Banu Sulaym tribe who was of unattractive appearance and dark complexion, was instructed by the Prophet ﷺ: “Go to ‘Amr bin Wahb al-Thaqafi and tell him to give his daughter to you in marriage.”
When Sa‘d (رضي الله عنه) went and conveyed the Prophet’s message, ‘Amr refused bluntly: “Go away! What are you saying?” At that moment, his daughter—renowned for her beauty—spoke: “O father! Think carefully about what you are about to do. Are you rejecting the command of the Prophet? You will be ruined! I am ready. I do not look at black or white when it comes to the Prophet’s command—I only see his instruction. Go and tell him: I accept the marriage.”
The marriage was thus solemnized with a dowry of 400 dirhams.
