Excerpted from: Fatāwā al-Dīn al-Khāliṣ, Vol. 1, p. 184

✿ Question

Is the following speech, which is commonly circulated among people, valid or acceptable?

Examples include:
“Allah says: If I were a human, I would eat yogurt.”
“When someone commits the act of the people of Lūt, Allah gets a fever.”

✿ Answer

All praise is due to Allah, and blessings and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah. To proceed:

These statements are nothing more than the foolish utterances of the ignorant.
They have no basis in Islamic creed, nor are they supported by the Qur’an or Hadith.

Rather, such phrases fall under the category of disrespectful, blasphemous, and potentially heretical speech. It is an individual obligation (farḍ ʿayn) upon every Muslim to refrain from uttering such vulgarities.

❶ Allah ﷻ is Exalted Beyond Eating, Drinking, or Physical Desires

To say:
“If I were a human, I would eat yogurt”
—is an utterly despicable, false, and disgraceful statement.

This is a whisper of Shayṭān and a reckless utterance repeated by the ignorant and misguided.

Allah ﷻ is absolutely free and pure from any form of bodily needs or desires.

❖ Qur’anic Reminder

(Surah Nūḥ: 13)
Translation: “What is the matter with you that you do not fear the Majesty of Allah?”

❖ Position of the Pious Predecessors (Salaf al-Ṣāliḥīn)

The righteous scholars of the past said:

“One should never mention Allah ﷻ alongside vulgar, filthy, or shameful things—such as dogs, pigs, or impurities. This contradicts the majesty and reverence of Allah.”

❖ Following the Footsteps of the Jews in Blasphemy

Such blasphemous claims resemble the speech of the Jews, who falsely attributed disgraceful statements to Allah ﷻ:

“اللَّهُ فَقِيرٌ وَنَحْنُ أَغْنِيَاءُ”
"Allah is poor and we are rich.”
(Surah Āl ʿImrān: 181)

“يَدُ اللَّهِ مَغْلُولَةٌ”
"The Hand of Allah is chained.”
(Surah al-Mā’idah: 64)

“نَحْنُ أَبْنَاءُ اللَّهِ وَأَحِبَّاؤُهُ”
"We are the children of Allah and His beloved ones.”
(Surah al-Mā’idah: 18)

These are statements of disbelief and disrespect toward the Creator, and Muslims must avoid falling into the same error.

❷ Refutation of the Statement: “Allah Gets a Fever”

Saying that “Allah gets a fever” is a blatantly false statement, and a violation of correct Islamic beliefs.

There is no such attribute of Allah mentioned in the Qur’an or Hadith.

❖ What Is the Correct Creed?

The accurate, sound belief is:

“Allah expresses His jealousy (ghayrah) and anger (ghaḍab) over sins and acts of disobedience.”

As narrated in the authentic Hadith:

"إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَغَارُ، وَغَيْرَةُ اللَّهِ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ الْمَرْءُ مَا حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ"
(Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim)

Translation:
"Allah has a sense of jealousy, and His jealousy is aroused when a servant commits what He has prohibited."

One may also say:

“Allah becomes angry at such acts.”
But attributing fever to Allah is a fabrication, entirely void of any theological support.

❖ Legal Principle in Speech Regarding Allah

When pure, precise, and authentic phrases are available to describe Allah’s reaction to sin, why resort to vulgar, disrespectful expressions?

It is not only improper, but also sinful.

❖ Stern Warning

Woe to those vile tongues that utter such shameless fabrications about Allah without fear.

No Muslim should ever use such expressions, lest he earn the wrath of Allah ﷻ and fall into spiritual ruin.

❀ Summary

✔ The statements:
“If I were a human, I would eat yogurt” and
“Allah gets a fever when someone commits the act of Lūṭ”
—are fabricated, disrespectful, and void of any Islamic basis.

✔ These are expressions of mockery and disbelief, which must be avoided at all costs.

✔ The correct belief is that Allah is above all human traits, and only authentic, respectful terms should be used when referring to His attributes.

And Allah knows best what is correct.
