Recommended (Mansūn) Time for the Eid al-Aḍḥā Prayer

Source:
Fatawa of the Scholars of Hadith, Kitāb al-Ṣalāh, Vol. 1, p. 147

Question

What is the prescribed (mansūn) time for performing the Eid al-Aḍḥā prayer according to the customary Indian schedule? And what is the legal status if one delays it beyond that time?

Answer

There is a slight difference between the recommended times for Eid al-Fiṭr and Eid al-Aḍḥā prayers:

Eid al-Fiṭr Prayer:
❀ The mansūn time begins when the sun has risen approximately one-and-a-quarter spears’ length (سوا نیزہ) above the horizon.

Eid al-Aḍḥā Prayer:
❀ The mansūn time begins when the sun has risen one spear’s length (ایک نیزہ) above the horizon.

Validity after the Recommended Time:
Even if the Eid al-Aḍḥā prayer is performed after the above-mentioned mansūn period, the prayer itself remains valid and sound. However, the recommended window for offering it is strictly as described.
