❖ Question

What is the reality of magic, and what is the solution if someone is affected by it?

❖ Answer

Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ʿAmma Baʿd!

Although the Qur’an and Sunnah do not provide a single comprehensive definition of magic in one place, its reality can be understood from various verses and authentic narrations.

✿ Reality of Magic in the Light of Qur’an and Sunnah

Qur’anic Verse:
"وَاتَّبَعُوْا مَا تَتْلُوْا الشَّیَاطِیْنُ عَلٰی مُلْکِ سُلَیْمَانَ"

(al-Baqarah: 102)
This verse shows that magic is related to satanic practices and false knowledge.

Incident of Musa (عليه السلام):
When Musa (AS) confronted the magicians, they cast their ropes and staffs which appeared to the people as if they were snakes.
(Ṭāhā: 65–70)

Incident of Labīd ibn Aʿṣam:
A Jewish man, Labīd ibn Aʿṣam, cast magic on the Prophet ﷺ. This proves that magic has a reality and can affect a human being.
(The details are found in the books of Hadith.)

✿ Sharʿi Cure for Magic

Recitation of al-Muʿawwidhatayn:
Frequent recitation of Sūrat al-Falaq and Sūrat al-Nās (al-Muʿawwidhatayn), seeking Allah’s refuge through them, is an effective cure and protection against the effects of magic.

Supplication to Allah:
Turning sincerely to Allah ﷻ in duʿā is the greatest means of protection and deliverance from the evil of magic.

هذا ما عندي والله أعلم بالصواب
