Fasts of Ramadan: Is a Daily Intention Required?
Source: Fatāwā Arkān al-Islām
Is it necessary to make a new intention for each fast of Ramadan, or is a single intention for the entire month sufficient?
All praise is due to Allah, and may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah. To proceed:
Making a single intention at the beginning of Ramadan for the entire month is sufficient. If the fasting person does not make a separate intention each night, the initial intention at the start of Ramadan is enough.
However, if a person misses some fasts due to travel, illness, or any other reason, then upon resuming the fasts, a new intention is necessary. This is because missing the fast due to travel or illness interrupts the previous intention, requiring a fresh one.
🖋 This is what I hold, and Allah knows best what is correct.
