✿ Question:

What is the ruling on raising the hands (rafʿ al-yadayn) when going into rukūʿ and when rising from it?

✿ Answer:

Raising the hands at the beginning of prayer, when going into rukūʿ, when rising from rukūʿ, and when standing up after two rakʿāt is proven through mutawātir ahadith.

◈ Statement of Ḥāfiẓ al-Dhahabī (رحمه الله) (748H):

He described rafʿ al-yadayn as a “Sunnah Mutawātirah.”
(Siyar Aʿlām al-Nubalāʾ 5/293)

◈ Statement of Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Kathīr (رحمه الله) (774H):

من الأحاديث الصحيحة المتعددة التى لا يمكن دفعها ولا منعها ولا ردها، وهى متواتر إليه صلوات الله وسلامه عليه، أنه كان يرفع عند الإحرام والركوع، والرفع منه يديه .
Translation:
There are multiple authentic narrations that cannot be denied or rejected, which are mutawātir from the Prophet ﷺ, that he would raise his hands at the opening takbīr, when going into rukūʿ, and when rising from it.
(Kitāb al-Aḥkām al-Kabīr 2/310)

◈ Statement of ʿAllāmah Ibn Abī al-ʿIzz (رحمه الله) (792H):

أحاديث الرفع تكاد تبلغ التواتر .
Translation:
The ahadith regarding raising the hands are almost mutawātir.
(al-Tanbīh ʿalā Mushkilāt al-Hidāyah 2/567)

✅ Conclusion:
Performing rafʿ al-yadayn at the beginning of prayer, when going into rukūʿ, and when rising from it is a confirmed Sunnah established by mutawātir ahadith, and cannot be rejected.
