✿ Section: Do Not Despair of Allah’s Mercy
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى:
﴿يٰعِبَادِيَ الَّذِيْنَ أَسْرَفُوا عَلٰى أَنْفُسِهِمْ لَا تَقْنَطُوا مِنْ رَّحْمَةِ اللَّهِ﴾
Translation: “Say: O My slaves who have transgressed against themselves! Do not despair of the mercy of Allah.”
— [Al-Zumar: 53]
Hadith 1
Narrated by Ibn ʿAbbās رضي الله عنهما:
Some people from among the polytheists had committed excessive killings and fornication. They came to the Prophet ﷺ and said:
“What you say and call towards is good, but inform us: is there any atonement for our past sins?”
Then Allah revealed:
﴿وَالَّذِينَ لَا يَدْعُونَ مَعَ اللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا آخَرَ وَلَا يَقْتُلُونَ النَّفْسَ الَّتِي حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ وَلَا يَزْنُونَ﴾
Translation: “And those who do not invoke with Allah another deity, nor kill the soul which Allah has forbidden except by right, nor commit fornication…”
— [Al-Furqān: 68]
Also revealed:
﴿قُلْ يٰعِبَادِيَ الَّذِينَ أَسْرَفُوا عَلٰى أَنْفُسِهِمْ لَا تَقْنَطُوا مِنْ رَّحْمَةِ اللَّهِ﴾
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī: 4810
✿ Section: The Beautiful Patience of Yaʿqūb عليه السلام
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى:
﴿قَالَ بَلْ سَوَّلَتْ لَكُمْ أَنْفُسُكُمْ أَمْرًاۖ فَصَبْرٌ جَمِيلٌ﴾
Translation: “[Yaʿqūb said]: Rather, your souls have enticed you to something. So patience is most fitting.”
— [Yūsuf: 18]
Hadith 2
Narrated by al-Zuhrī, who heard from ʿUrwah, Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib, ʿAlqamah, and ʿUbaydullah about ʿĀʾishah رضي الله عنها:
When she was accused (in the incident of al-Ifk), the Prophet ﷺ said:
"If you are innocent, Allah will declare your innocence; and if you have committed a sin, then seek forgiveness from Allah and repent to Him."
She replied:
“By Allah! I do not find any example for myself except that of the father of Yūsuf:
﴿فَصَبْرٌ جَمِيلٌ وَاللَّهُ الْمُسْتَعَانُ عَلَىٰ مَا تَصِفُونَ﴾
'So patience is beautiful, and Allah is the One sought for help against what you describe.'”
Then Allah revealed the ten verses from:
﴿إِنَّ الَّذِينَ جَاءُوا بِالْإِفْكِ﴾ to the end.
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī: 4690
✿ Section: The Unique Kingdom of Sulaymān عليه السلام
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى:
﴿رَبِّ هَبْ لِي مُلْكًا لَا يَنبَغِي لِأَحَدٍ مِّن بَعْدِي ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ الْوَهَّابُ﴾
Translation: “My Lord! Grant me a kingdom such as will not belong to anyone after me. Indeed, You are the Bestower.”

Hadith 3
Narrated by Abū Hurayrah رضي الله عنه:
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Last night, a strong demon (ʿifrīt) from the jinn came to disturb my prayer. Allah gave me power over him, and I wanted to tie him to one of the pillars of the mosque so that you all could see him in the morning. But I remembered the supplication of my brother Sulaymān:
﴿رَبِّ هَبْ لِي مُلْكًا لَا يَنبَغِي لِأَحَدٍ مِّن بَعْدِي﴾
So I let him go, disgraced.”
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī: 4808
✿ Section: The False Deities of Nūḥ’s Nation
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى:
﴿وَدًّا وَسُوَاعًا وَيَغُوثَ وَيَعُوقَ﴾
Translation: “Wadd, Suwāʿ, Yaghūth, Yaʿūq, and Nasr.”

Hadith 4
Narrated by Ibn ʿAbbās رضي الله عنهما:
These idols were worshipped in the time of Nūḥ عليه السلام and later taken up by various Arab tribes. They were originally the names of righteous men from among Nūḥ’s people. When they died, Satan inspired their people to make statues at their gatherings in remembrance. Initially, they were not worshipped. But after the first generation passed away and knowledge was lost, they were worshipped.

✿ Section: The Role of the Prophet ﷺ as a Witness, Bearer of Glad Tidings, and Warner
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى:
﴿يَا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ شَاهِدًا وَمُبَشِّرًا وَنَذِيرًا﴾
Translation: "O Prophet! Indeed, We have sent you as a witness, a bearer of glad tidings, and a warner."
— [Al-Aḥzāb: 45]
Hadith 5
Narrated by ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ رضي الله عنهما:
This verse also appears in the Tawrah, wherein it says:
“O Prophet! We have sent you as a witness, a bearer of glad tidings, a warner, and a protector for the unlettered. You are My servant and My messenger. I have named you al-Mutawakkil (the Reliant). You are not harsh, nor hard-hearted, nor do you shout in the markets. You do not repay evil with evil, but rather pardon and forgive.
Allah will not take your soul until He straightens the crooked nation (Arabs) through you, such that they proclaim: Lā ilāha illallāh (There is no deity but Allah).
Through this statement, He will open blind eyes, deaf ears, and sealed hearts.”
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī: 4838
✿ Section: The Believing Man from Pharaoh’s Family
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى:
﴿وَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مُّؤْمِنٌ مِّنْ آلِ فِرْعَوْنَ يَكْتُمُ إِيمَانَهُ…﴾
Translation: “And a believing man from the family of Pharaoh, who concealed his faith, said: ‘Would you kill a man because he says: My Lord is Allah, while he has brought you clear signs from your Lord?...’”

Hadith 6
Narrated by ʿUrwah ibn al-Zubayr:
I asked ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ رضي الله عنهما:
“What was the harshest thing the polytheists did to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?”
He replied:
The Prophet ﷺ was praying near the Kaʿbah when ʿUqbah ibn Abī Muʿayṭ came and twisted his garment around his neck, choking him severely. At that moment, Abū Bakr رضي الله عنه arrived, grabbed ʿUqbah's shoulder, pushed him away, and said:
﴿أَتَقْتُلُونَ رَجُلًا أَنْ يَقُولَ رَبِّيَ اللَّهُ وَقَدْ جَاءَكُم بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ مِن رَبِّكُمْ﴾
"Would you kill a man simply because he says, ‘My Lord is Allah,’ and he has brought you clear signs from your Lord?"
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī: 4815
✿ Section: They Did Not Estimate Allah with His Due Estimation
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى:
﴿وَمَا قَدَرُوا اللَّهَ حَقَّ قَدْرِهِ﴾
Translation: “And they did not estimate Allah with the estimation due to Him.”
— [Al-Zumar: 67]
Hadith 7
Narrated by ʿAbdullāh ibn Masʿūd رضي الله عنه:
A Jewish rabbi came to the Prophet ﷺ and said:
“O Muhammad! We find in the Torah that Allah will place the heavens on one finger, the earths on one finger, the trees on one finger, the water and dust on one finger, and all creation on one finger. Then He will say: ‘I am the King.’”
The Prophet ﷺ smiled so broadly that his molars were visible — confirming the rabbi’s words. Then he recited:
﴿وَمَا قَدَرُوا اللَّهَ حَقَّ قَدْرِهِ﴾
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī: 4811
✿ Section: The Day the Shin Will Be Uncovered
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى:
﴿يَوْمَ يُكْشَفُ عَنْ سَاقٍ﴾
Translation: “The Day the shin will be uncovered…”

Hadith 8
Narrated by Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī رضي الله عنه:
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Our Lord will uncover His shin on the Day of Judgement. Then every believing man and woman will prostrate to Him.
But those who used to prostrate in the world out of show and fame will attempt to prostrate, yet their backs will become stiff like a solid board, and they will be unable to bend.”
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī: 4919
✿ Section: Take Whatever the Messenger Gives You
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى:
﴿وَمَا آتَاكُمُ الرَّسُولُ فَخُذُوهُ﴾
Translation: “Whatever the Messenger gives you, take it...”
— [Al-Ḥashr: 7]
Hadith 9
Narrated by ʿAbdullāh ibn Masʿūd رضي الله عنه:
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Allah has cursed the tattooers, those who get tattoos, those who pluck eyebrows, and those who create spaces between their teeth for beauty — altering Allah’s creation.”
A woman from Banū Asad, known as Umm Yaʿqūb, came and said:
“I read the Qur’an cover to cover and found nothing like what you said.”
He replied:
“If you had read it carefully, you would have found it. Didn’t you read:
﴿وَمَا آتَاكُمُ الرَّسُولُ فَخُذُوهُ وَمَا نَهَاكُمْ عَنْهُ فَانْتَهُوا﴾
‘Take what the Messenger gives you and refrain from what he prohibits.’”
She said: “I see that your wife also does these things.”
He replied: “Go and see for yourself.” She went and found nothing objectionable. He added:
“Had she done so, she would not have remained with me.”
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī: 4886
✿ Section: Do Not Take My Enemies as Allies
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى:
﴿لَا تَتَّخِذُوا عَدُوِّي وَعَدُوَّكُمْ أَوْلِيَاءَ﴾
Translation: “Do not take My enemies and your enemies as allies.”
— [Al-Mumtaḥanah: 1]
Hadith 10
Narrated by ʿAlī رضي الله عنه:
The Prophet ﷺ sent me along with al-Zubayr and al-Miqdād and said:
“Go to Raudat Khākh, where a woman is traveling with a letter. Take it from her.”
We found the woman and demanded the letter. She denied having it. We said:
“Either produce the letter or we will strip your clothing.”
She then took it out from her braid. It was a letter from Ḥāṭib ibn Abī Baltaʿah to the polytheists of Makkah, informing them about the Prophet's ﷺ plans.
The Prophet ﷺ asked Ḥāṭib:
“What is this, O Ḥāṭib?”
He explained:
“O Messenger of Allah, do not hasten in judgment. I have no tribal relations with the Quraysh like the other Muhājirūn do, so I wanted to do them a favor, hoping they’d protect my family. I did not do this out of disbelief or apostasy.”
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“He has spoken the truth.”
ʿUmar رضي الله عنه said:
“Let me strike his neck!”
The Prophet ﷺ replied:
“He was present at Badr. Perhaps Allah looked at the people of Badr and said:
‘Do as you please, for I have forgiven you.’”
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī: 4890
✿ Section: The Nearness of the Prophet ﷺ to His Lord
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى:
﴿فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ أَوْ أَدْنَىٰ﴾
Translation: “Then he was at a distance of two bow-lengths or nearer.”
— [Al-Najm: 9]
Hadith 11
Narrated by Zirr ibn Ḥubaysh from ʿAbdullāh ibn Masʿūd رضي الله عنه:
Regarding the verse:
﴿فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ أَوْ أَدْنَىٰ فَأَوْحَىٰ إِلَىٰ عَبْدِهِ مَا أَوْحَىٰ﴾
“Then he was two bow-lengths away or closer. And He revealed to His servant what He revealed.”
He said:
“The Prophet ﷺ saw Jibrīl عليه السلام in his original form — he had six hundred wings.”
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī: 4856
✿ Section: Do Not Raise Your Voices Above the Prophet ﷺ
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى:
﴿لَا تَرْفَعُوا أَصْوَاتَكُمْ فَوْقَ صَوْتِ النَّبِيِّ﴾
Translation: “Do not raise your voices above the voice of the Prophet.”
— [Al-Ḥujurāt: 2]
Hadith 12
Narrated by Anas ibn Mālik رضي الله عنه:
The Prophet ﷺ did not see Thābit ibn Qays for some time. A man said, "O Messenger of Allah! I will bring you news of him." He found Thābit sitting in his house with his head bowed. He asked, "What is the matter with you?" He replied, "Something bad — I used to raise my voice above the Prophet's voice ﷺ, so all my deeds have been nullified and I am among the people of Hell."
That man returned to the Prophet ﷺ and informed him. Mūsā ibn Anas narrated that the man returned to Thābit again with great glad tidings. The Prophet ﷺ had said:
“Go to him and tell him: You are not from the people of Hell; rather, you are from the people of Paradise.”
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī: 4846
✿ Section: Glorify Your Lord Before Sunrise and Sunset
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى:
﴿وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ قَبْلَ طُلُوعِ الشَّمْسِ وَقَبْلَ غُرُوبِهَا﴾
Translation: “Glorify the praises of your Lord before sunrise and before sunset.”
— [Qāf: 39]
Hadith 13
Narrated by Jarīr ibn ʿAbdullāh رضي الله عنه:
We were sitting with the Prophet ﷺ on the night of the full moon (14th). He looked at the moon and said:
“Indeed, you will see your Lord just as you see this moon — you will not crowd or jostle to see Him.
So if you can avoid missing the prayers before sunrise and before sunset, then do so.”
Then he recited:
﴿وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ قَبْلَ طُلُوعِ الشَّمْسِ وَقَبْلَ غُرُوبِهَا﴾
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī: 4851
✿ Section: They Prefer Others Over Themselves
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى:
﴿وَيُؤْثِرُونَ عَلَىٰ أَنْفُسِهِمْ﴾
Translation: “They prefer others over themselves...”
— [Al-Ḥashr: 9]
Hadith 14
Narrated by Abū Hurayrah رضي الله عنه:
A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, “O Messenger of Allah, I am suffering from extreme hunger.” The Prophet ﷺ sent a message to his wives, but none of them had anything.
He ﷺ then said:
“Is there anyone who can host this man tonight? May Allah have mercy on him.”
An Anṣārī man stood up and said, “I will, O Messenger of Allah!” He took the guest home and said to his wife:
“This is the guest of the Prophet ﷺ. Do not spare anything from him.”
She replied, “By Allah, I have only enough food for the children.”
He said, “Put the children to sleep if they ask for food. Then extinguish the lamp and let us remain hungry.”
They did so. In the morning, the Anṣārī went to the Prophet ﷺ who said:
“Allah admired — or laughed — at your action last night.”
Then Allah revealed:
﴿وَيُؤْثِرُونَ عَلَىٰ أَنْفُسِهِمْ وَلَوْ كَانَ بِهِمْ خَصَاصَةٌ﴾
“And they prefer others over themselves, even though they are in need.”
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī: 4889
✿ Section: They Took Their Oaths as a Cover
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى:
﴿اتَّخَذُوا أَيْمَانَهُمْ جُنَّةً﴾
Translation: “They took their oaths as a cover...”
— [Al-Munāfiqūn: 2]
Hadith 15
Narrated by Zayd ibn Arqam رضي الله عنه:
I was with my uncle when I heard ʿAbdullāh ibn Ubayy ibn Salūl say:
“Do not spend on those around the Messenger of Allah so that they disperse. If we return to Madinah, the honorable will expel the disgraced.”
I informed my uncle who then reported it to the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ called Ibn Ubayy and his companions. They swore that they never said such a thing. The Prophet ﷺ accepted their oaths and did not believe me, which greatly distressed me.
Then Allah revealed:
﴿إِذَا جَاءَكَ الْمُنَافِقُونَ﴾ up to ﴿لَيُخْرِجَنَّ الْأَعَزُّ مِنْهَا الْأَذَلَّ﴾
The Prophet ﷺ then called me and recited this verse, saying:
“Indeed, Allah has declared you truthful.”
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī: 4901
✿ Section: Seeking Protection from Jinn and Evil Eye
Hadith 16
Narrated by Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī رضي الله عنه:
The Prophet ﷺ used to seek protection from the jinn and from the evil eye of humans, until the Muʿawwidhatayn (Sūrah al-Falaq and Sūrah al-Nās) were revealed. After they were revealed, he began using them and abandoned all other means.

✿ Section: The Light of Sūrah al-Fātiḥah
Hadith 17
Narrated by Ibn ʿAbbās رضي الله عنهما:
While Jibrīl عليه السلام was sitting with the Prophet ﷺ, he heard a creaking sound above. He raised his head and said:
“A gate of the heavens has opened today which was never opened before.”
An angel descended and said:
“Receive the glad tidings of two lights granted to you which no prophet before you was given: Sūrah al-Fātiḥah and the last verses of Sūrah al-Baqarah.
You will never recite a single letter from them except that you will be given what you ask.”

✿ Section: Intercession of Sūrah al-Baqarah and Āl ʿImrān
Hadith 18
Narrated by al-Nawwās ibn Samʿān رضي الله عنه:
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“On the Day of Judgment, the Qur’ān and its people who used to act upon it will be brought forth. Leading them will be Sūrah al-Baqarah and Āl ʿImrān.
The Prophet ﷺ gave three parables about them which I never forgot:
They will appear like two clouds, or two shades, or two flocks of birds in ranks — pleading on behalf of their reciters.

✿ Section: Sūrah al-Mulk Will Intercede Until Paradise
Hadith 19
Narrated by Anas ibn Mālik رضي الله عنه:
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“There is a sūrah in the Qur’ān that will argue on behalf of its reciter until it causes him to enter Paradise.
It is:
﴿تَبَارَكَ الَّذِي بِيَدِهِ الْمُلْكُ﴾
'Blessed is He in whose hand is the dominion.'”

✿ Section: Love for Sūrah al-Ikhlāṣ
Hadith 20
Narrated by ʿĀʾishah رضي الله عنها:
The Prophet ﷺ appointed a man as commander of an expedition. He used to recite Sūrah al-Ikhlāṣ (Qul Huwa Allāhu Aḥad) at the end of every prayer.
When they returned, they mentioned this to the Prophet ﷺ. He said:
“Ask him why he does that.”
The man replied:
“Because it describes the Attribute of the Most Merciful, and I love to recite it.”
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Inform him that Allah loves him.”

✿ Section: Healing Power of Sūrah al-Fātiḥah
Hadith 21
Narrated by Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī رضي الله عنه:
We were on a journey and camped near a tribe. A girl came saying:
“The chief of our tribe has been stung, and our men are away. Is there anyone who can do ruqyah?”
One man went with her (Abū Saʿīd) and recited Sūrah al-Fātiḥah over the afflicted man, and he was cured. The chief rewarded him with thirty sheep and gave them milk.
When they returned, the companions asked:
“Do you really know ruqyah?”
He replied:
“I only recited Sūrah al-Fātiḥah.”
They said: “Do nothing until we ask the Prophet ﷺ.”
When they returned to Madinah and informed the Prophet ﷺ, he said:
“How did he know that it is a ruqyah?
Distribute the reward and give me a share.”

✿ Section: The Descent of Tranquility and Angels During Recitation of the Qur'an
Hadith 22
Arabic Text:
«وعن أسيد بن حضير قال: بينما هو يقرأ من الليل سورة البقرة وفرسه مربوطة عنده ... لا تتوارى منهم»

Translation:
Narrated by Usayd ibn Ḥuḍayr رضي الله عنه:
One night, he was reciting Sūrah al-Baqarah while his horse was tied nearby. Suddenly, the horse started to move restlessly. So he stopped reciting, and the horse became calm. He began reciting again, and the horse moved again. He stopped, and it calmed down again. He resumed recitation, and once more the horse became agitated.
His son Yaḥyā was near the horse, so fearing for the child's safety, he ended the recitation and moved the child away. Then he looked up towards the sky but could no longer see anything.
In the morning, he narrated this incident to the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Recite, O Ibn Ḥuḍayr! Recite, O Ibn Ḥuḍayr!”
He said: “O Messenger of Allah, I feared that the horse might trample upon Yaḥyā, as he was nearby. So I raised my head and went to him. Then I looked at the sky and saw a cloud-like canopy with lamps within it, but when I went out again, I could not see it.”
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Do you know what that was?”
He replied: “No.”
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Those were angels who had come close due to your voice. If you had continued reciting, they would have remained visible to people until morning — they would not have been hidden from them.”
✿ Section: Allah’s Statement – "And He taught Adam the names of all things"
وَعَلَّمَ آدَمَ الْأَسْمَاءَ كُلَّهَا
"And He taught Adam the names of all things."
— [Al-Baqarah: 31]
Hadith 23
Narrated by Anas رضي الله عنه, the Prophet ﷺ said:
On the Day of Judgment, the believers will gather and say:
“Let us seek intercession from our Lord.”
They will go to Adam عليه السلام and say:
“You are the father of mankind. Allah created you with His own hands, made the angels prostrate to you, and taught you the names of all things. Intercede for us with your Lord!”
He will reply:
“I am not suitable for that,”
and will recall his error and feel ashamed.
He will say:
“Go to Nūḥ, the first Messenger sent to the people of the Earth.”
They will go to Nūḥ عليه السلام, who will also decline, recalling his request for something about which he had no knowledge.
Then they will proceed to Ibrāhīm, Mūsā, and ʿĪsā عليه السلام, each of whom will decline due to some reason and direct them to Muḥammad ﷺ.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Then they will come to me, and I will seek permission to go before my Lord. I will be granted permission.
When I see my Lord, I will fall in prostration. I will remain in sujūd as long as Allah wills.
Then I will be told:
‘Raise your head. Speak — you will be heard. Ask — you will be given. Intercede — your intercession will be accepted.’
Then I will praise Allah with praises He teaches me and intercede. A limit will be set, and I will bring them into Paradise.
This will happen again and again. On the fourth return, I will say:
‘None remain in Hell except those whom the Qur'an has bound therein — those upon whom eternity in Hell has become obligatory.’”

✿ Section: Allah’s Statement – "Do not set up rivals unto Allah while you know"
فَلَا تَجْعَلُوا لِلّٰهِ أَنْدَادًا وَأَنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ
"Do not set up rivals to Allah while you know [the truth]."
— [Al-Baqarah: 22]
Hadith 24
Narrated by ʿAbdullāh ibn Masʿūd رضي الله عنه:
I asked the Prophet ﷺ:
“Which sin is greatest in the sight of Allah?”
He said:
“To set up a partner with Allah while He created you.”
I said: “That is indeed great!”
I asked: “Then what?”
He said:
“To kill your child out of fear that he will share your food.”
I asked: “Then what?”
He said:
“To commit adultery with your neighbor's wife.”
Source: Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī: 4477
✿ Section: Allah’s Statement – "Do you think you will enter Paradise without such trials as came to those before you?"
أَمْ حَسِبْتُمْ أَنْ تَدْخُلُوا الْجَنَّةَ...
"Do you think you will enter Paradise without such trials as came to those who passed away before you?"
— [Al-Baqarah: 214]
Hadith 25
Narrated by ʿUrwah, from ʿĀʾishah رضي الله عنها:
She said:
“By Allah! Allah never made a promise to His Messenger except that he knew it would be fulfilled before his death.
However, the prophets faced such continuous trials that they feared their followers would begin to doubt them.”
She used to recite the verse:
وَظَنُّوا أَنَّهُمْ قَدْ كُذِّبُوا
With the intensified (shaddah) pronunciation of “ذ”.

✿ Section: Allah’s Statement – "And sever your ties of kinship"
وَتُقَطِّعُوا أَرْحَامَكُمْ
"And you sever your ties of kinship."

Hadith 26
Narrated by Abū Hurayrah رضي الله عنه:
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“When Allah created the creation and completed it, the womb (raḥim) stood up and clung to the All-Merciful.
Allah said: ‘What is the matter?’
It said: ‘This is the station of the one who seeks refuge with You from being cut off.’
Allah said: ‘Will you be pleased if I maintain ties with those who maintain you, and cut off those who sever you?’
It said: ‘Yes, O my Lord.’
Allah said: ‘Then it is so.’”
Abū Hurayrah added:
“If you wish, recite:
﴿فَهَلْ عَسَيْتُمْ إِنْ تَوَلَّيْتُمْ أَنْ تُفْسِدُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَتُقَطِّعُوا أَرْحَامَكُمْ﴾”

✿ Section: Allah’s Statement – "Show me how You give life to the dead"
وَإِذْ قَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ رَبِّ أَرِنِي كَيْفَ تُحْيِي الْمَوْتَىٰ
"And when Abraham said: My Lord, show me how You give life to the dead."
— [Al-Baqarah: 260]
Hadith 27
Narrated by Abū Hurayrah رضي الله عنه:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“We have more right to doubt than Abraham — when he said:
رَبِّ أَرِنِي كَيْفَ تُحْيِي الْمَوْتَىٰ ۖ قَالَ أَوَلَمْ تُؤْمِن قَالَ بَلَىٰ وَلَٰكِن لِّيَطْمَئِنَّ قَلْبِي
(My Lord, show me how You give life to the dead. He said: Do you not believe? He said: Yes, but to satisfy my heart.)”

✿ Section: In it are verses that are entirely clear (Muhkamat)
مِنْهُ آيَاتٌ مُحْكَمَاتٌ...
"Some of its verses are clear (muḥkam), they are the foundation of the Book."

Hadith 28
Narrated by ʿĀʾishah رضي الله عنها:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited:
هُوَ الَّذِي أَنْزَلَ عَلَيْكَ الْكِتَابَ...
(He is the One Who has sent down to you the Book. In it are clear verses... to the end of the verse.)
Then he said:
“When you see those who follow what is ambiguous (mutashābih), they are those whom Allah has named (as deviants) — beware of them.”

✿ Section: Call to a Common Word Between Muslims and People of the Book
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى:
﴿قُلْ يَا أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ تَعَالَوْا إِلَىٰ كَلِمَةٍ سَوَآءٍۭ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكُمْ أَلَّا نَعْبُدَ إِلَّا اللَّهَ﴾
Translation:
“Say, O People of the Book! Come to a word that is equitable between us and you—that we will not worship except Allah…”
— [Āl ʿImrān: 64]
Hadith 29
Narrated by Ibn ʿAbbās رضي الله عنهما:
Abū Sufyān رضي الله عنه narrated to me personally:
During the truce between me and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I traveled to Syria. While there, a letter from the Prophet ﷺ was brought to Heraclius. It had been delivered by Dihyah al-Kalbī, who passed it on to the governor of Busra, and he brought it to Heraclius.
Heraclius asked if anyone from the people of the man claiming Prophethood was present. I was called in with others from Quraysh. He asked, “Who among you is most closely related to this man?” I replied, “I am.” I was placed in front, and my companions were seated behind me.
He began questioning me through an interpreter and said to my companions, “If he lies, correct him.” Abū Sufyān said: By Allah, had I not feared being labeled a liar, I would have lied.
Heraclius asked:
① What is his lineage among you?
➤ I said: “He is of noble lineage.”
② Has anyone among his forefathers been a king?
➤ I said: “No.”
③ Was he ever accused of lying before claiming Prophethood?
➤ I said: “No.”
④ Who follows him, the elite or the weak?
➤ I said: “The weak.”
⑤ Are his followers increasing or decreasing?
➤ I said: “Increasing.”
⑥ Does anyone among them apostatize out of displeasure after embracing his religion?
➤ I said: “No.”
⑦ Have you fought him?
➤ I said: “Yes.”
⑧ How do your battles go?
➤ I said: “Sometimes he wins, and sometimes we do.”
⑨ Has he ever broken a treaty?
➤ I said: “No, but currently we are under a truce, and I do not know what he will do.”
⑩ Has anyone before him made a similar claim?
➤ I said: “No.”
Heraclius said to his interpreter:
“Tell him: I asked about his lineage—you said he is noble. That is how the Prophets are sent, among the noblest of their people.
I asked whether any of his ancestors were kings—you said no. If it had been so, I would have thought he was reclaiming his father’s kingdom.
I asked whether he had been accused of lying before— you said no. How could a man who never lied about people lie about Allah?
I asked about his followers—you said the weak follow him. That is how the followers of Prophets have always been.
I asked whether his followers increase or decrease—you said they increase. That is the reality of faith until it is perfected.
I asked whether anyone apostatizes—you said no. That is the nature of true faith once it enters the heart.
I asked about his wars—you said battles go back and forth. So it is with the Prophets: they are tested, and eventually they prevail.
I asked if he ever broke a treaty—you said no. That is how Prophets are—they never betray.
I asked whether anyone before him claimed this—you said no. If someone had, I would have thought he was just imitating.”
Then Heraclius asked: “What does he command?”
➤ I said: “He commands prayer, zakāh, maintaining family ties, and chastity.”
Heraclius said: “If what you say is true, then he is indeed a Prophet. I knew he was about to appear, but I did not think he would come from your people. If I could reach him, I would meet him, and if I were in his presence, I would wash his feet. His dominion will reach where my feet stand.”
Then he read the letter of the Prophet ﷺ:
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
“From Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, to Heraclius, the ruler of Byzantium. Peace be upon the one who follows guidance.
I call you to Islam. Accept Islam, and you will be safe—Allah will give you your reward twice. But if you turn away, then upon you will be the sin of the peasants.
﴿يَا أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ تَعَالَوْا إِلَىٰ كَلِمَةٍ سَوَآءٍۭ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكُمْ أَلَّا نَعْبُدَ إِلَّا اللَّهَ﴾
…until: ﴿فَاشْهَدُوا بِأَنَّا مُسْلِمُونَ﴾”
When the letter was read, there was a loud uproar in the court, and we were expelled.
I said to my companions: “Indeed, the matter of Ibn Abī Kabshah has reached the point where even the King of Byzantium fears him!”
I remained certain of the Prophet’s eventual victory until Allah guided me to Islam.
Later, Heraclius assembled the leaders of Rome and addressed them: “O Romans! Will you accept success and right guidance, and that your kingdom remains secure forever?”
Upon hearing this, they ran wildly like donkeys, toward the doors—but the doors were locked. Heraclius calmed them and said:
“I only tested your commitment to your religion. I have seen what I wished to see.”
Then they prostrated before him and were pleased with him.
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī: 4553
✿ Section: True Righteousness Through Beloved Charity
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى:
﴿لَنْ تَنَالُوا الْبِرَّ حَتّٰى تُنْفِقُوا مِمَّا تُحِبُّونَ﴾
Translation:
“You will never attain righteousness until you spend from that which you love.”
— [Āl ʿImrān: 92]
Hadith 30
Narrated by Anas ibn Mālik رضي الله عنه:
Abū Ṭalḥah رضي الله عنه had the most palm trees among the Anṣār in Madinah. The most beloved of his properties to him was Bayr Ḥāʾ, a garden facing the mosque. The Prophet ﷺ used to visit it and drink from its sweet water.
When the verse was revealed:
﴿لَنْ تَنَالُوا الْبِرَّ حَتّٰى تُنْفِقُوا مِمَّا تُحِبُّونَ﴾
Abū Ṭalḥah said:
“O Messenger of Allah! Allah says: ‘You will not attain righteousness until you spend from what you love’, and the most beloved of my wealth is Bayr Ḥāʾ, and I give it in charity for the sake of Allah, hoping for its reward and treasure from Allah. O Messenger of Allah! Spend it wherever Allah shows you.”
The Prophet ﷺ replied:
“Well done! That is a profitable wealth. That is a profitable wealth. I have heard what you said, and I think you should distribute it among your close relatives.”
Abū Ṭalḥah said:
“I will do so, O Messenger of Allah.”
So he divided it among his relatives and cousins.
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī: 4554
✿ Section: Reliance Upon Allah During Threats
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى:
﴿الَّذِينَ قَالَ لَهُمُ النَّاسُ إِنَّ النَّاسَ قَدْ جَمَعُوا لَكُمْ فَاخْشَوْهُمْ﴾
Translation:
“Those to whom the people said, ‘Indeed, the people have gathered against you, so fear them.’”
— [Āl ʿImrān: 173]
Hadith 31
Narrated by Ibn ʿAbbās رضي الله عنهما:
The phrase ﴿حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ﴾ — “Sufficient for us is Allah, and He is the best disposer of affairs” —
was said by Ibrāhīm عليه السلام when he was thrown into the fire,
and also by Muḥammad ﷺ when the people said:
﴿إِنَّ النَّاسَ قَدْ جَمَعُوا لَكُمْ فَاخْشَوْهُمْ﴾
“Indeed, the people have gathered against you, so fear them.”
But it increased them in faith, and they said:
﴿حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ﴾
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī: 4563
✿ Section: Misers Will Be Punished Through Their Wealth
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى:
﴿وَلَا يَحْسَبَنَّ الَّذِينَ يَبْخَلُونَ بِمَا آتَاهُمُ اللَّهُ مِن فَضْلِهِ هُوَ خَيْرًا لَّهُم﴾
Translation:
“And let not those who withhold what Allah has given them of His bounty think that it is good for them...”
— [Āl ʿImrān: 180]
Hadith 32
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 4565
Narrated by Abū Hurayrah رضي الله عنه:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
"Whoever is granted wealth by Allah but does not pay its zakat, his wealth will appear before him on the Day of Resurrection as a bald-headed poisonous snake with two black spots over its eyes. It will encircle his neck and bite his cheeks, saying: ‘I am your wealth! I am your treasure!’”
Then the Prophet ﷺ recited the verse:
﴿وَلَا يَحْسَبَنَّ الَّذِينَ يَبْخَلُونَ﴾
“…And let not those who withhold…”
✿ Section: Seeing Allah on the Day of Judgment
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى:
﴿إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَظْلِمُ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ﴾
Translation:
“Indeed, Allah does not wrong anyone even the weight of an atom.”
— [Al-Nisā’: 40]
Hadith 33
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 4581
Narrated by Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī رضي الله عنه:
The companions asked, “O Messenger of Allah! Will we see our Lord on the Day of Resurrection?”
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Yes. Do you face any difficulty in seeing the sun at midday when there is no cloud?”
They replied, “No.”
He ﷺ said: “Likewise, you will not face any difficulty in seeing your Lord. Then, a caller will announce: ‘Let every nation follow what it used to worship.’”
Idolaters will be thrown into Hell. Jews and Christians will be questioned and cast likewise for their false worship.
Only those who worshipped Allah—pious or sinful—will remain. Allah will then appear to them in a form different from what they initially saw and say:
‘What are you waiting for?’
They will reply: “We await our Lord whom we used to worship.”
Allah will say: “I am your Lord.”
They will respond: “We do not associate anything with Allah.”
This will be said two or three times until they finally recognize their Lord.
✿ Section: No Sin on Believers for What They Consumed Before Prohibition
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى:
﴿لَيْسَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ جُنَاحٌ فِيمَا طَعِمُوا﴾
Translation:
“There is no blame upon those who believe and do righteous deeds for what they consumed…”
— [Al-Mā’idah: 93]
Hadith 34
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 4620
Narrated by Anas رضي الله عنه:
He said: “I used to serve wine to people in the house of Abū Ṭalḥah رضي الله عنه. When the verse declaring wine prohibited was revealed, a caller was sent out to announce: ‘Verily, wine has been made unlawful!’”
Abū Ṭalḥah said: “Go and pour it out.”
The narrator said: “Wine flowed through the streets of Madinah.”
Some companions worried about those who had died while wine was still permitted. Then the following verse was revealed:
﴿لَيْسَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ جُنَاحٌ﴾
“There is no blame upon those…”
✿ Section: Arrogance and the Supplication of Abu Jahl
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى:
﴿اللَّهُمَّ إِن كَانَ هَٰذَا هُوَ الْحَقَّ مِنْ عِندِكَ فَأَمْطِرْ عَلَيْنَا﴾
Translation:
“O Allah! If this is the truth from You, then rain stones upon us from the sky…”
— [Al-Anfāl: 32]
Hadith 35
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 4648
Narrated by Anas ibn Mālik رضي الله عنه:
Abū Jahl arrogantly said:
“O Allah! If this is the truth from You, then rain upon us stones from the sky or bring us a painful punishment.”
Then the verse was revealed:
﴿وَمَا كَانَ اللَّهُ لِيُعَذِّبَهُمْ وَأَنتَ فِيهِمْ﴾
“And Allah would not punish them while you [O Muhammad] are among them…”
✿ Section: The Final Words of Abu Ṭālib
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى:
﴿إِنَّكَ لَا تَهْدِي مَنْ أَحْبَبْتَ﴾
Translation:
“Indeed, you [O Prophet] do not guide whom you love…”
— [Al-Qaṣaṣ: 56]
Hadith 36
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 4772
Narrated by Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib from his father:
When death approached Abū Ṭālib, the Prophet ﷺ said:
“O uncle! Say: Lā ilāha illallāh, a word I will use to plead for you before Allah.”
Abū Jahl and ʿAbdullah ibn Abī Umayyah said:
“Will you forsake the religion of ʿAbdul Muṭṭalib?”
The Prophet ﷺ kept insisting, but Abū Ṭālib remained firm on his ancestral faith and refused to declare the shahādah.
Then the verse was revealed:
﴿إِنَّكَ لَا تَهْدِي مَنْ أَحْبَبْتَ﴾
“Indeed, you do not guide whom you love…”
✿ Section: In the Cave with the Prophet ﷺ
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى:
﴿إِذْ يَقُولُ لِصَاحِبِهِ لَا تَحْزَنْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَنَا﴾
Translation:
“…When he said to his companion: Do not grieve; indeed, Allah is with us.”
— [Al-Tawbah: 40]
Hadith 37
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 4663
Narrated by Abū Bakr رضي الله عنه:
“I was with the Prophet ﷺ in the cave [of Thawr], and I saw the feet of the pagans above us. I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah! If one of them were to look down, he would see us!’
The Prophet ﷺ replied: ‘O Abū Bakr! What do you think of two people when Allah is the third of them?’”
✿ Section: The Funeral of ʿAbdullah ibn Ubayy – Leader of the Hypocrites
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى:
﴿إِن تَسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ سَبْعِينَ مَرَّةً فَلَن يَغْفِرَ اللَّهُ لَهُمْ﴾
Translation:
“Whether you ask forgiveness for them or not, even if you ask seventy times, Allah will never forgive them...”
— [Al-Tawbah: 80]
Hadith 38
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 4670
Narrated by ʿAbdullah ibn ʿUmar رضي الله عنهما:
When ʿAbdullah ibn Ubayy died, his son (a sincere believer) came to the Prophet ﷺ and requested his shirt to use as a shroud for his father, and the Prophet ﷺ granted it.
Then he asked the Prophet ﷺ to lead the funeral prayer. The Prophet ﷺ stood to do so, but ʿUmar رضي الله عنه pulled him by his garment and said:
“O Messenger of Allah! Will you pray over him when your Lord has already forbidden you to do so?”
The Prophet ﷺ replied:
“Indeed, Allah gave me a choice:
﴿اسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ أَوْ لَا تَسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ﴾
‘Ask forgiveness for them or do not ask…’ I will increase it beyond seventy times, perhaps Allah will forgive him.”
ʿUmar insisted: “But he was a hypocrite!”
Despite that, the Prophet ﷺ led the funeral. Then the verse was revealed:
﴿وَلَا تُصَلِّ عَلَى أَحَدٍ مِّنْهُم مَّاتَ أَبَدًا وَلَا تَقُمْ عَلَى قَبْرِهِ﴾
“And never pray over anyone of them who dies, and do not stand by his grave.”
✿ Section: Not Permitted to Seek Forgiveness for Polytheists
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى:
﴿مَا كَانَ لِلنَّبِيِّ وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَن يَسْتَغْفِرُوا لِلْمُشْرِكِينَ﴾
Translation:
“It is not for the Prophet or those who believe to ask forgiveness for the polytheists…”
— [Al-Tawbah: 113]
Hadith 39
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 4675
Narrated by Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib from his father:
At the deathbed of Abū Ṭālib, the Prophet ﷺ said:
“O uncle! Say Lā ilāha illallāh, a word by which I will plead for you before Allah.”
Abū Jahl and ʿAbdullah ibn Abī Umayyah responded:
“Will you abandon the religion of ʿAbdul Muṭṭalib?”
Abū Ṭālib remained firm on his ancestral religion and died upon it. The Prophet ﷺ said:
“I will surely continue asking forgiveness for you until I am prohibited from doing so.”
Then this verse was revealed:
﴿مَا كَانَ لِلنَّبِيِّ وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا﴾
“It is not for the Prophet or those who believe to ask forgiveness…”
✿ Section: The Repentance of the Three Left Behind
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى:
﴿وَعَلَى الثَّلَاثَةِ الَّذِينَ خُلِّفُوا﴾
Translation:
“And [He forgave] the three who were left behind…”
— [Al-Tawbah: 118]
Hadith 40
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 4677
Narrated by ʿAbdullah ibn Kaʿb, reporting from his father Kaʿb ibn Mālik رضي الله عنه (one of the three whose repentance was accepted):
He said:
“I never missed any battle with the Prophet ﷺ except for Tabūk and Badr. At Tabūk, I stayed behind without excuse.
The Prophet ﷺ forbade the Muslims from speaking to us three who did not join. For fifty days, people shunned us. I feared dying in that state or the Prophet ﷺ dying and I being forever disconnected from the believers.
Then, in the last third of the night, revelation came to the Prophet ﷺ accepting our repentance. The Prophet ﷺ was in the house of Umm Salamah. He said to her:
‘O Umm Salamah, Allah has accepted Kaʿb’s repentance.’
She asked: ‘Shall I inform him?’
The Prophet ﷺ said: ‘No, the people will keep him up all night if they hear.’
After Fajr, the Prophet ﷺ publicly announced the acceptance of our repentance. His face lit up like the moon.
Allah severely criticized the hypocrites who offered false excuses, but honored us three by name in revelation.”
✿ Section: Sending Salat and Salam Upon the Prophet ﷺ
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى:
﴿إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَمَلَائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ﴾
Translation:
“Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet…”
— [Al-Aḥzāb: 56]
Hadith 41
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 4797
Narrated by Kaʿb ibn ʿUjrah رضي الله عنه:
He said:
“We asked, ‘O Messenger of Allah, we know how to greet you with Salām, but how should we send Ṣalāt upon you?’”
The Prophet ﷺ replied:
“Say:
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ، كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَىٰ آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ،
اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ، كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَىٰ آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ”
