Qur'anic Supplications in Prayer and the Ruling on Dhuhr Sunnah Prayers

Source: Fatawa of the Scholars of Hadith, Volume 09

❖ Question

  1. Is it permissible to recite Qur'anic supplications in the final Tashahhud of Salah (prayer)?
  2. If the Sunnah prayers before the obligatory Dhuhr prayer are missed due to delay, is it allowed to perform them after the obligatory prayer?

❖ Answer

➊ Ruling on Reciting Qur'anic Supplications in the Final Tashahhud

Yes, it is permissible to recite any supplication from the Qur'an or Hadith during the final Tashahhud of Salah. After completing the Tashahhud, the worshipper is encouraged to make du‘ā (supplication), and there is full freedom to choose from Qur’anic or Prophetic supplications. There is no restriction on this, and in fact, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ encouraged making supplications after Tashahhud, as confirmed in various Hadiths.

➋ Ruling on Performing Missed Sunnah Prayers of Dhuhr After the Fardh

If the Sunnah prayers that are to be performed before the obligatory Dhuhr Salah are missed, it is permissible to offer them after the Fardh prayer. There is no harm in this practice. If the Sunnah prayers could not be performed at their scheduled time due to any valid reason, they may be made up later.
