✦ The Greatest Methods of Treatment

① Reciting Sūrat al-Fātiḥah as Ruqyah

❀ Ḥārithah ibn Ṣalt رضي الله عنه narrates from his uncle:

He came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and accepted Islam.
Upon returning, he passed by a tribe who had a madman bound with iron chains.
The people said:

“We have heard good about this man (the Prophet ﷺ).
Do you have something with which you can treat him?”

He recited Sūrat al-Fātiḥah over the afflicted man, and he became cured.
They gave him one hundred sheep.

He returned to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him.

The Prophet ﷺ asked:

🌸 Arabic:
«هَلْ إِلَّا هَذِهِ؟»
“Did you recite anything besides this?”

He replied: “No.”

The Prophet ﷺ said:

🌸 Arabic:
«خُذْهَا، فَلَعَمْرِي مَنْ أَكَلَ بِرُقْيَةِ بَاطِلَةٍ، فَلَقَدْ أَكَلْتَ بِرُقْيَةِ حَقٍّ»

Translation:
“Take them. By my life, some people take payment for false ruqyah, but you have taken it for true ruqyah.”

📚 [Ṣaḥīḥ Abī Dāwūd: 3896; al-Ṣaḥīḥah: 2027]

Second narration:

They used to recite Sūrat al-Fātiḥah upon the afflicted man three times morning and evening.
After each recitation they would gather their saliva and blow upon him.
He became as if freed from knots, and they gave him sheep.

📚 [Ṣaḥīḥ Abī Dāwūd: 3897]

Reciting Āyat al-Kursī

③ Reciting the Last Two Verses of Sūrat al-Baqarah

⑦ Then blowing upon the patient.

⑧ Repeat this process three times or more.

⑨ Other Qur’anic verses may also be recited.

The entire Qur’an is a healing, guidance, and mercy for the believers.

📚 [al-Fatḥ al-Rabbānī, Tartīb Musnad Aḥmad 17/183]

⑩ The supplications for siḥr (magic) have already been mentioned earlier.

⑪ Calling the adhān into the ear of the unconscious or possessed person

This is very beneficial, for Satan flees when he hears the adhān.

📚 [al-Bukhārī: 608; Muslim: 389]

✦ Reciting Qur’an into the Ear of the Possessed

ʿAbdullāh ibn Masʿūd رضي الله عنه recited something into the ear of an afflicted person and he became relieved.

The Prophet ﷺ asked:

🌸 Arabic:
«مَاذَا قَرَأْتَ فِي أُذُنِهِ؟»
“What did you recite in his ear?”

He replied:

He recited this verse and the entire Sūrat al-Mu’minūn till the end.

📚 [Musnad Abī Yaʿlā: 5023; al-Ṭabarānī in al-Duʿā’: 1081; Ibn al-Sunnī: 631]

The Prophet ﷺ then said:

🌸 Arabic:
«لَوْ أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنْكُمْ قَرَأَهَا عَلَى جَبَلٍ لَزَالَ»

Translation:
“If a believer were to recite this upon a mountain, it would move.”

✦ The Practice of Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah

Imām Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله would treat the afflicted using:

✔ Āyat al-Kursī
✔ The Muʿawwidhatayn (al-Falaq & al-Nās)
✔ And often recited into the ear:

📚 [al-Mu’minūn: 115]

He reported:

“I once recited this verse into the ear of a possessed man.
The spirit cried out: ‘Yes, we will indeed return to Allah!’”

📚 [Zād al-Maʿād 4/66]

✦ Evidence That Jinn Enter Human Bodies

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله said:

The entering of jinn into the bodies of the sons of Adam is established by consensus of the scholars of Ahl al-Sunnah.

Allah says:

📚 [al-Baqarah: 275]

Translation:
“Those who consume usury will rise like the one beaten by Satan into madness.”

A ṣaḥīḥ hadith establishes:

“The devil flows through the human being like blood flows.”

✦ Statement of Imām ʿAbdullāh ibn Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal

He said:

“I said to my father: Some people claim the jinn do not enter a person’s body.”

He replied:

🌸 Arabic:
O my son! They lie.
It is the jinn speaking upon their tongues.

📚 [Zād al-Maʿād 4/66]

✦ Final Statements of Ibn Taymiyyah

He said:

This matter is extremely well-known.
Jinn overpower humans, cause them to lose consciousness, and speak upon their tongues with words whose meanings are unrecognizable.

He added:

“None among the Imams of Islam denies the entry of jinn into human bodies.
Whoever denies this and claims that the Shariah rejects it is himself rejecting the Shariah.
There is no evidence in Shariah that contradicts this.”
