Question
What is the Qur’anic way to reconnect with those who cut ties and to turn an enemy into a friend?
Answer
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ʿammā baʿd!
◄ Treat them with kindness: feed them, offer them hospitality, and show generosity.
◄ Follow the Qur’anic guidance:
“Maintain ties with the one who severs relations with you.”
◄ Frequently make this duʿāʾ:
“O Allah! Suffice me against him in whatever way You will.”
◄ Act upon another Qur’anic command:
“Repel (evil) with that which is best.”
◄ As a result of such conduct, Allah promises:
“Then the one between whom and you was enmity will become as though he were a close friend.”
(Sūrah Fuṣṣilat 41:34)
By responding with goodness, patience, and duʿāʾ, one can soften hearts, reconnect ties, and transform hostility into sincere friendship — exactly as the Qur’an teaches.
