❖ Question
What is āsīb (possession)? What verses of the Qur’an and which aḥādīth are used for its treatment? How should they be recited?
➊ Can jinn afflict human beings? What are the causes?
➋ If a person is afflicted by jinn, which sūrahs or verses should be recited to bring them forth? And what should be recited to repel them?
➌ What is the reality of a “Sharʿī taʿwīdh”? Is it permissible to give or take such amulets?
➍ Some practitioners claim to imprison jinn. What is the reality of this, and how is it done?
❖ Answer
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, Ammā Baʿd!
➊ The Reality of Āsīb
Āsīb means the effect of jinn or being influenced by them.
Its treatment includes:
✿ Reciting Āyat al-Kursī
✿ Reciting al-Muʿawwidhatayn (Sūrat al-Falaq and Sūrat al-Nās) and Sūrat al-Ikhlāṣ
✿ Reciting Sūrat al-Baqarah
➋ Do Jinn Afflict Humans?
Yes, jinn can afflict humans, and the causes are varied.
➌ Which Verses Should Be Recited for Treatment?
The sūrahs and verses mentioned above (in point 1) should be recited frequently. In shāʾ Allāh, benefit will be achieved thereby.
➍ The Reality of Sharʿī Taʿwīdh
Even if a taʿwīdh consists of Qur’anic verses or supplications, there is no proof of such a practice from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Hence, it is not legislated.
➎ Imprisoning Jinn
It is said that some practitioners claim to imprison jinn. Regarding this, I have no knowledge. This should be asked from those practitioners themselves.
