❖ Question:
I am afraid of Shayāṭīn (devils). What should I do?
❖ Answer:
Recite the following authentic supplications frequently, as taught by the Prophet ﷺ:
① Supplication for Protection Against the Evil of Enemies
Narrated by Abū Mūsā al-Ashʿarī (RA):
The Prophet ﷺ said:
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَجْعَلُكَ فِي نُحُورِهِمْ، وَنَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شُرُورِهِمْ
"O Allah, we place You before them (as our shield), and we seek refuge in You from their evils."
(Sunan Abī Dāwūd 2/89, Ḥadīth 1537)
Imām al-Ḥākim and Imām al-Dhahabī have declared this ḥadīth authentic.
② Supplication for Divine Protection from Humans and Jinn
Narrated by ʿAbdullāh ibn Masʿūd (RA):
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ السَّمَاوَاتِ السَّبْعِ وَرَبَّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ، كُنْ لِي جَارًا مِنْ فُلَانٍ وَأَحْزَابِهِ وَأَشْيَاعِهِ مِنَ الْجِنِّ وَالْإِنْسِ، أَنْ يَفْرُطُوا عَلَيَّ أَوْ يَطْغَوْا، عَزَّ جَارُكَ، وَجَلَّ ثَنَاؤُكَ، وَلَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُكَ
"O Allah! Lord of the seven heavens and the Great Throne, be a Protector for me against so-and-so and his armies and followers among the jinn and humans, lest they transgress against me or behave arrogantly. Your protection is mighty, Your praise is exalted, and there is no god besides You."
(Al-Adab al-Mufrad 707)
Imām al-Albānī (RA) authenticated it in al-Adab al-Mufrad, ḥadīth no. 545.
③ Supplication for the Defeat of Evil Forces
Narrated by ʿAbdullāh ibn Abī Awfā (RA):
The Prophet ﷺ said:
اللَّهُمَّ مُنَزِّلَ الْكِتَابِ، سَرِيعَ الْحِسَابِ، اهْزِمِ الْأَحْزَابَ، اللَّهُمَّ اهْزِمْهُمْ وَزَلْزِلْهُمْ
"O Allah, Revealer of the Book, Swift in reckoning, defeat the confederates (enemies). O Allah, defeat them and shake them."
(Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 3/1362, Ḥadīth 1742)
④ Supplication for Complete Divine Sufficiency
Narrated by Ṣuhayb ibn Sinān (RA):
The Prophet ﷺ said:
اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِيهِمْ بِمَا شِئْتَ
"O Allah! Be sufficient for me against them in whatever way You will."
(Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 3/2300, Ḥadīth 3005)
❖ Conclusion
These authentic and prophetic supplications are powerful tools for seeking Allah’s protection from the fear and harm of Shayāṭīn, humans, and jinn. One should frequently recite these adhkār with sincerity and conviction to feel spiritual security and inner peace.
