Ruling and Method of Ruqyah for Evil Eye
Authored by: Dr. Raza Abdullah Pasha (Hafizahullah)
❖ Question:
Did the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) command seeking ruqyah for protection against the evil eye?
❖ Answer:
It is narrated from Sayyidah A’ishah (RA) that she said:
«أميرني النبى أو أمر أن نسترقي من العين»
"The Prophet (ﷺ) commanded me, or he (ﷺ) commanded us, to seek ruqyah for protection against the evil eye."
[Sunan Abu Dawud, Hadith no. 3880 / 2522]
Imam al-Albani (rahimahullah) graded this narration as Sahih.
It is also narrated from her (RA) that she said:
«كان يؤمر العائن فيتوضأ، ثم يغتسل منه المعين»
"The one who cast the evil eye would be ordered to perform ablution, and then the afflicted person would wash with that water."
[Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith no. 5738]
This means that the envious person should perform ablution in a vessel, and then that water should be poured all at once over the afflicted person.
