❖ Clear Prohibition Against Hanging Amulets
The prohibition of hanging or wearing amulets is clearly established in the sayings of the Prophet ﷺ. This practice is not permissible in Islam, and if a person believes that the amulet can bring benefit or remove harm, it leads toward acts close to shirk (associating partners with Allah).❖ Key Points from the Prophetic Teachings
➊ The Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever hangs something (like an amulet), will be left to it.”➋ He also said: “Whoever hangs an amulet, may Allah not fulfill his wish.”
➌ In another narration: “Whoever hangs an amulet has committed shirk.”
➍ A man who wore a brass ring claiming it was for protection was told by the Prophet ﷺ: “Remove it, for it will only increase your weakness, and if you die with it, you will never succeed.”
➎ When Huzayfah رضي الله عنه saw someone wearing a thread due to illness, he tore it and recited:
“Most of them do not believe in Allah without associating partners with Him.” (Surah Yusuf: 106)
❖ Why Amulets Are Forbidden
① General Prohibition: No specific evidence permits this act, and general prohibitions are only lifted with solid proof from Quran and Sunnah.② Disrespect to the Quran: Writing Quranic verses in amulets and carrying them to unclean places is considered disrespectful.
③ Promotion of False Beliefs: Permitting such practices under the guise of Quranic protection opens the door to un-Islamic and superstitious practices.
④ Lack of Precedent from the Salaf: The Companions and righteous predecessors never adopted such methods for protection.
❖ Summary
✦ Hanging amulets, even if they contain Quranic verses, is forbidden and leads to misplaced reliance away from Allah.✦ This practice has no basis in the actions of the Prophet ﷺ or his Companions.
✦ Muslims should avoid these practices and maintain pure and firm faith in Allah alone.
