Prohibition of obscene speech, excessive construction, curiosity, envy, and severing ties

This excerpt is taken from the Arabic book Al-Awamer wal-Nawahi by Sheikh Hussain bin Mubarak Al-Mawsili, whose Urdu translation has been done by Muhammad Sarwar Gohar Sahib under the title Ahkamat o Mamnooat.

Prohibition of Obscene Speech​

​

① It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (RA) that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said:
الحياء من الإيمان، والإيمان فى الجنة، والبذاء من الجفاء، والجفاء فى النار
“Modesty is a part of faith, and the end of faith is Paradise, whereas obscene speech causes hardness of heart and alienation from people, and its end is Hell.”

② Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (RA) reports that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said:
الحياء والعي شعبتان من الإيمان، والبذاء والبيان شعبتان من النفاق
“Modesty and speaking little are two parts of faith, whereas obscene speech and excessive talking are two branches of hypocrisy.”

Prohibition of Building Beyond Necessity​

① It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas رضي الله عنه that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم once went outside and we were with him. He saw a tall dome and said:
ما هذا؟
"What is this?"
His companions said: This belongs to an Ansari companion. He remained silent and kept it in his heart. Then the owner of the dome came. He greeted the Prophet in the presence of the people, but the Prophet ignored him. He did this several times until the man sensed the displeasure of the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم and realized that the Prophet was ignoring him. The man complained to the companions رضي الله عنهم and said: By Allah! I could not understand the reason for the displeasure of the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم. The companions رضي الله عنهم said: You built a dome, and there is no other reason. So the man came to his dome and demolished it to the ground. Then one day the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم went outside again and did not see the dome, so he said:
ما فعلت القبة؟
"What happened to the dome?"
The companions رضي الله عنهم said: Its owner asked about the reason for your displeasure, so we told him, and he demolished it. The Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
أما إن كل بناء وبال على صاحبه إلا ما لا، إلا ما لا
"If a building is not needed, then if it is built, it becomes a burden for its owner."

② Sayyiduna Anas رضي الله عنه also narrates that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
النفقة كلها فى سبيل الله إلا البناء ولا خير فيه
"Every kind of expenditure is in the way of Allah except for construction; there is no goodness in the expense of construction."

③ Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin As رضي الله عنهما narrates, I was plastering my wall with lime when the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم passed by me and said:
ما هذا يا عبد الله؟
"Abdullah! What is this?"
I said: O Messenger of Allah! I am repairing and restoring this wall. He said:
الأمر أيسر من ذلك
"The matter is much easier than that."

Prohibition of Curiosity and Sensitivity, Competition, Mutual Envy, Resentment, and Severing Ties​

① It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
إياكم والظن فإن الظن أكذب الحديث، ولا تجسسوا ولا تحسسوا ولا تباغضوا ولا تنافسوا ولا تحاسدوا ولا تدابروا وكونوا عباد الله إخوانا كما أمركم، المسلم أخو المسلم لا يظلمه ولا يخذله ولا يحقره، التقوى هاهنا التقوى هاهنا - ويشير إلى صدره - بحسب امرئ من الشر أن يحقر أخاه المسلم، كل المسلم على المسلم حرام دمه وعرضه وماله، وإن الله لا ينظر إلى أجسادكم ولا إلى صوركم وأموالكم، ولكن ينظر إلى قلوبكم
"Avoid suspicion, for suspicion is the greatest falsehood. Do not spy, do not pry, do not hold grudges against one another, do not compete with one another, do not envy one another, do not sever ties, and as you have been commanded, be servants of Allah and brothers among yourselves. A Muslim is the brother of another Muslim; he neither oppresses him, nor abandons him helpless, nor despises him. Piety is here, piety is here" — and the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم pointed to his chest — "It is enough for a man to be considered bad that he despises his Muslim brother. The blood, honor, and wealth of a Muslim are sacred to another Muslim. Indeed, Allah does not look at your bodies, your appearances, or your wealth, but He looks at your hearts."
